RE: Why are people down on the Metro Conference?
I personally hope the new name of the conference indeed ends up being The Metro Conference for that would be full circle for some of us a home coming so to say. A new skyline as well as a updated version of the spelling with a football on the top side with the basketball of the bottom side would be awesome. If you look close enough to the old Metro Logo you see what is a basketball outline on the bottom, and I personally think that would be awesome with a new twist of having the football on the top in the same manner. Love the Metro for there were many games that were just awesome, and what happened to it do to greed of basketball and football not being able to see the big picture was shameful for the fans of that conference. If you don't know then look it up for the commissioner then had a vision and oh what a vision it was that would have rocked the football and basketball conference gods of today.

Actually, I thought the Metro Superconference idea was Raycoms.

The Metro Conference is officially "the stupidest name ever," according to every UH student I asked today. Let this die, please.

If I am not mistaking the Commish at the time laid it out to to the TV guys ( Raycom etc. ) and they ran with it. Almost hit a homerun with it if it were not for greed back in those days.

The other part of this that fits the "coming full circle" theme is that it looks like Tranghese stole the Metro Superconference idea when starting the Big East football conference. The original Big East football lineup is the Superconference's North division with Miami in place of Cincinnati.
Metro Superconference idea (original BE football members in red):
South Division
East Carolina
Florida State
Louisville
Memphis
Miami
South Carolina
Southern Mississippi
Tulane
North Division
Boston College
Cincinnati
Pittsburgh
Rutgers
Syracuse
Temple
Virginia Tech
West Virginia
