I will not be surprised if it falls apart at some point. Also as time moves on it could also develop old BE - BB v. FB issues as 4 BB schools (UConn, UC, Temple and Memphis) may end up in league with 6-7 other teams with yearly 100+RPIS and be required to play them 12 games per year (40% of the schedule), requiring agreesive OOC schedule (new BE will likely have the same "bad bottom half of league" problem as well in losing BB royalty in Louisville, Syracuse and UConn)

And people wonder why I dislike all conferences.

Most of them seem to me to just be a grouping of bickering, complaining, competing interests banded together only by their own individual needs and weaknesses.

I live in Baton Rouge and belong to a premium LSU site. The threads are often about LSU fans complaining how the SEC is set up to benefit Alabama and disadvantage LSU.

Big 12 fans complain about Texas. SEC fans complain that the league office is in bed with Alabama.

ACC schools like Florida State and Clemson fans ***** about "basketball centric" Tobacco Road schools like Duke, North Carolina and NC State.

The Big East was a big mess of dysfunction.

It is like one big soap opera.

RE: Blaudschun says Big East agreement "could be announced Thursday"
Word we are getting in MEMPHIS is there is some serious pushback from the "new" Big MAC schools on this $10mm split offer.

AttackCoog is right - small wonder there have been multiple delays in the final announcement from Aresco.

Again, to be sure we are on the same page...no one denies the 3 leftovers from the Big East deserve the largest share of the $100mm. NO ONE. The problem is the 6 new entrants were sold the Big East Conference last year and, as one poster noted earlier, those teams joined anticipating UL, RU, C-7, ND all being there.

Yet those teams will be gone (or going within a year or so) of the new teams coming on board.

Ah, but now the coup de grace - the 3 leftovers are trying to work this deal with the C-7 to sell the Big East name/history to the C-7 group. Yet the new entrants have zero say-so or input to it. The deal is for (allegedly) $100mm coming to the 3 leftovers and Temple.

The 3 leftovers quickly agree to hoard $30mm each and throw a $10mm bone to the 6 new entrants. I guess Temple warrants zero.

Yet the Big East name changes to the C-7 on 7-1-13 and MEMPHIS, UCF, SMU, and Houston join the Big MAC Conference.

Do the 3 leftovers not see the fundamental unfairness in how this was done?

A simpler method is to apply common sense and agree on a split that is RIGHT to ALL. I personally would think this works better:
1. Connecticut, Cincinnati, and USF as long term full members of the old Big East get $20mm each. That is a damn ample war chest; a windfall. That is $60mm of the $100mm.
2. Temple played football last year in the Big East. They get $6mm. That is $66mm of the $100mm.
3. The 7-1-13 new teams - MEMPHIS, UCF, SMU, and Houston - each get $5mm. That is $20mm total and $86mm of the $100mm.
4. The 7-1-14 new teams - Tulane and ECU - each get $4mm. That is $8mm total and $94mm of the $100mm.
5. Navy enters on 7-1-15 and gets $3mm. That is $97mm of the $100mm.
6. The Big MAC office gets the final $3mm.

Since this is NOT the Big East, the entry fees for Temple and the 7 new entrants are waived. The original $5mm entry fee was to join the Big East...not the Big MAC.

Now, the final numbers can be debated but this is a more legitimate starting point. This is the right thing to do.
