Honest B1G question
I always see people bring up that the SEC has no exit fee, the ACC is $50 mil, BE $10 mil, but what is the exit fee for the B1G? I tried to google it but everything that popped up was about Maryland and Rutgers.

RE: Honest B1G question
Allegedly, the B1G has a 25 year grant-of-rights. No exit fee, but the GoR is tied to an equity stake in the BTN.

I honestly don't know either. I will point out that the Big Ten's GoR is much more rock solid because it covers ALL TV rights, not just those that the conference's Tier 1 and Tier 2 network contracts cover. If a school leaves the Big Ten they will have zero home coverage controlled by them and their new conference. That isn't the case with another GoR that get's thrown around a lot in conference realignment discussion.

6 out of 6 games is much more solid than 5 out of 6?
Sorry, that's just silly. They're either both solid or neither.

Exactly. You'd have to be insane to leave the B1G. They make the most money in college sports and have the most academic prestige.

RE: Honest B1G question
The GOR is tied to an ownership share in the BTN. They're still guaranteed the revenue whether they're in the conference or not. So it would complicate things, but it wouldn't actually cost a school any revenue if they were to leave.
Not that anyone would ever want to leave in the first place.

If a school were to leave, they would almost certainly be required to buy out their share in the BTN. And no way does a new conference let the B1G take revenue for a school that left the B1G for the new conference.
But you're right - it's a moot point because there's no school that would even consider leaving the B1G at this point.

The ACC is right there with the Big Ten on the latter. The Big Ten definitely has the overall research prowess nod over the ACC though.

No....you are completely missing the point. With the Big 12's GoR, the ownership belongs to the conference unless their network partners choose not to air a particular game. If that happens then ownership reverts back to the school in terms of being able to use the inventory. That is the "oilpan" which is Tier 3. With the Big Ten's GoR covering Tier 3 as well, nothing ever reverts back to the schools. The BTN plays Everything, it is a regional network and shows games regionally. The Big 12 has no such mechanism so your 5 out of 6 or 6 out of 6 is either ignorant or blatantly trying to oversimplify the situation.
