Does storming a food court count?

Your analogies are terrible because football players know they risk serious injuries playing the sports. Basketball players should not be subjected to potential injuries once the game is over.

Tennis change their rules for fans being able to walk in the area behind the tennis players during changeover/breaks after Monica Seles was stabbed.

RE: "Court/Field Storming!"
Is this even a real argument or is it ESPN just trying to come up with a new talking point/debate to waste time with?

I haven't even read the thread but can assume it went like this: Everyone is okay with it except Memphis fans.

I think Bilas said it and he was dead on: It has just gotten cliched and kind of lame because almost all of them are planned out before the game. There is no reason to ban it, though. Just make sure the opposing players are protected.

Yes, but those are situations where frequent injuries happen. If we are going to bring safety to every potentially dangerous situation, even one that has happened hundreds of times without incident, then where are you going to draw the line? This isn't an issue it is just being made into one because coach K lost.

Monica Seles was stabbed by a crazy person. I don't think they care if you are allowed to enter the court or not because, and this may shock you, it is illegal to stab someone. That didn't stop them.

Essentially what rushing the field boils down to is interaction between human beings. Any interaction between people is somewhat unpredictable and has the potential to end in injury. That's not a reason to prevent human interaction at every possible turn.

ESPN being ESPN. Looking for something to cry about for views.

Conferences will eventually start charging schools a fine if students rush the court. I think the SEC already does this. Others will follow.

This is just typical ESPN bull****. They have to make up stories to hide the fact that they are horrendously irrelevant and losing steam in sports relevance to blogs.

espn needs to pay attention to the keith olbermann example; the dude was great on SC, but the second he tried to step out into other realms, he failed. big. permanently. now, he's just plain toxic.

espn seems to want to dabble in social commentary. they should stick to play by play. fox is going to come in and steal their shorts.

Was stab by a crazy person. And when some crazy college student decides he ir she wants a Youtube moment and decides to bring bodily harm to a player on the court, then you will understand why something should be done.

RE: "Court/Field Storming!"
this is just a retarded conversation. what are ya gonna do, shoot 'em if they charge the field? taser their a$$es? enclose football fields in cages?

srsly, WHAT are you going to do to actually PREVENT it, that wouldn't be a million times worse than the original problem?

RE: "Court/Field Storming!"
First of all it is very simple to prevent rushing the court. The SEC doesn't allow it and if the rule is broken the school gets fined. Again, I'm not saying do away with it but simply make sure the visiting team gets safely off the floor first. It is not that difficult of a task people. Put some preventive measures in place now instead of waiting for something stupid and possibly tragic to happen.

I have a problem with the premeditated nature of rushing the court. Rushing the court should only happen on a last second shot in a tight game. It should be spontaneous. Rushing the court today seems to be only to get attention. You never hear about rushing the court in non televised games. It's only students wanting to get attention. I have a problem with it unless it is spontaneous. You should find yourself on the court and not know how you got there.

by definition, it isn't "premeditated". we wouldn't be rushing the field if we expected it.

No, I've seen preparations made for rushing the court such as moving barriers, threads on message boards.

Air Force did it last night after they defeated New Mexico in a tight one of senior night.

Some of them are just plain dumb though.
