XU's Semaj Christon
I don't want to make a big deal out of this, but after watching part of the game and reading this today from Lance's XU/St.L summary:

Quote:Semaj Christon added 20 points, 7 boards and 7 assists. The kid is smooth, and just a freshman. He's averaging 15 points a game, and has just six three pointers on the season (2 last night). I wonder how many guards have scored that many points this year, while doing it with so few three pointers?

I couldn't help but wonder a bit about how UC would look with him on the roster. Obviously he'd have less playing time this year competing with Cash, SK, etc. and he plays in a different situation with a different system, but man could we use a guy who can consistently score inside the arc to probably make everyone better offensively. Of course hindsight is 20/20 and perhaps it wouldn't have been as critical with a healthy Cash this year and maybe Caupain, or whoever, can be that guy going forward.

But with him being a Winton Woods grad (followed by a year at prep school) and very highly ranked as a recruit, I was just wondering if anyone knew the story with him and UC? Was UC just not interested or did we lack open schollies? Did X just get in on him early and stuck with him as he blew up? Was he just not interested in UC? Just curious if anyone has the scoop.

He's been really good. That young X team has come a long way really quickly.

RE: XU's Semaj Christon
He sucked in the Shootout. But every time I read an X boxscore or game summary, he's the leading scorer or one of the catalysts. I can't figure out if the rest of the team sucks and he's just trying to do it all, hence his stats look good, or it's simply the Deonta Vaughn syndrome, of decent player on a bad team, doing it all.

As for the low amount of three pointers, Byron Larkin didn't shoot the 3 well at X, but is their all-time leading scorer. He got most of his points from his midrange game.

Not an X fan but looking in on a few of their games this year on TV I'd say he's the real deal. He's a game changer; not afraid to drive it all the way to the basket like Lance Stephenson. I would argue he's made a bigger impact as a freshman than Lance did. Recruiting experts--who was after him besides X and how did UC miss one this close to home?

he was one of the more highly rated pg's in his class. x just has a way of attracting these players. you'd be fooling yourself if you don't think x can compete with the major conferences. they're always pulling in top 100's. it seems us and x are about even when it comes to getting home grown kids

We backed off when he reclassified for 2012. We weren't taking a PG in that class.

Great athlete. He isn't a good shooter. There is serious downside to having a pg who can't shoot threes or free throws.
