Texas about to burn?
rumors flying around that sh*t is about to go down...discuss

quotes from a Texas mod

"A few thoughts...

1. The scuttlebutt is out of control. I can't put my phone down without someone calling me. I'm talking former player, coaches, media members... you name it.

2. I don't know for a fact that something is being reported tonight or this weekend by anyone else. I have suspicions, but I don't have exact knowledge. I'm prepared for an alien to be on the other side of the wall at this point.

3. The stuff being discussed, if true on any level, is pretty substantial. I'm talking the kind of stuff that unnamed sourcing ain't gonna cut it with. We've spoken with all kinds of folks today, but nothing on the record involving the most explosive of the UNCONFIRMED rumors at this point. Every media source worth anything will demand on the record sourcing in my opinion on this.

4. There are about 1,000 arms to this entire.deal and we're working to have as much info that we can confirm as possible. I cannot give a timeline. This is not a story where being 80% right is good enough. These are real people whose names are being run through the muck right now, that may or may not have a real reason to have their names in the muck.

It does not take a rocket scientist to understand that at the center of this discussion is the ongoing Bev Kerney dispute.

I would have preferred that this thread hadn't happened and that we could chase what's out there without fear in the streets because it is a very delicate topic. But, the genie got out of the bottle and I knew it would be on message boards by the end of the night. Too many lips moving right now."

Tuxedo Yoda talked about this possibility several weeks ago.

From what I can gather (I have no inside info, just a quick search): The Longhorns former women's track and field coach, recently fired for an inappropriate relationship with a student-athlete, has decided to take down others with her by naming others in the Athletic Department that had inappropriate relationships. Whether there is actual evidence to substantiate these claims is unknown at this time.

Well this could certainly change things. This process will probably drag on for awhile though. It IS Texas after all. The amount of money and influence that will be thrown at this will probably be staggering.

It will be swept under the rug. People might lose their jobs but nothing major will happen after that.

If Mack and Dodd's were both fired that would send major ripples through the college football world.

RE: Texas about to burn?
The rumors that I have read talk about sexual scandals involving pretty much the entire Texas athletic department.

I have seen mention of boosters using the women's basketball team as a "veritable pick up joint" and that some/one of the men's basketball coaches may have had inappropriate relations with coeds and subordinate staff.

There is also mention of a former women's basketball coach having an inappropriate relationship with her superior, an executive in the athletic department.

Finally, there is talk about something called "Cleve-gate" and a guy named "Bryant" still working at a University of Texas related job while Bev Kearney was terminated.

It is alleged that Bev Kearney's Freedom of Information Act requests are or will be deadly because she knows where the bodies are buried and is being very specific with the requests.

I have no idea what "Cleve-gate" refers to or who "Bryant" is.

Is this all internet hot air or does this have "legs"?

Cleve Bryant. Major Applewhite. I'm still not sure if all of this amounts to the grand shift in power at the 40 acres that some suggest.

RE: Texas about to burn?
Cleve Bryant was an assistant at Tejas under John Mackovic (who played at Wake Forest and was later the head football coach there).
Bryant was then hired by Mack Brown at Carolina (quarterbacks coach).
When Mack left Carolina to go to Tejas he took Bryant back to Austin with him.
