Hope they get more carriage deals than the P12 network.

RE: SEC to officially announce network deal in April
"With the recent success of the Big Ten Network and Longhorn Network, there is no reason to believe that the SEC Network will not be just as successful."

I hope their aim is a bit higher than the Longhorn Network.

I also question how the SEC would own a majority share unless they are putting up mad money.

If they don't, it is their own damn fault! There is so much info., on this site alone, for how to construct a network deal, much less how to screw one up, that the SEC should have NO excuses for not having the "perfect deal"!

I doubt the SECN will have trouble getting carried. They've got the demand built into southern culture...

LHN IS successful...if you arent measuring success as how well the network itself is doing.

Think about it: Its very successful for UT because they get paid regardless of the fact that more Texans can watch footage from the Mars mission than they can the LHN.

Its a success for ESPN too because for a measly 300 mil, they now effectively own the Big 12 lock stock and barrel and have prevented it from either A) losing any teams to the PAC before they could secure their rights or B) creating their own TV network that ESPN would have to shell out more money for themselves or risk losing to Fox.

We already know that ESPN also owns all of the SEC & ACC.

They should just rebrand ESPN Classic into the SEC Network.

love that an ACC blowhard thinks the SEC would struggle to get carriage but if you said the same thing about an ACC network- he'd be like everyone will get it day 1. Especially since SEC>ACC.

The SEC Network will be available in more homes in Texas than LHN.

What would be really funny is if SECN is available in more homes in Austin than LHN.

But the rich men most interested in getting the NFL network on TV aren't people who spend millions on advertising every year, while many SEC boosters do. The rich men interested in getting the NFL network are NFL owners, and SEC boosters are businessmen who graduated from SEC schools. I think network execs will pay attention to them, especially when it could hurt their bottom line...

RE: SEC to officially announce network deal in April
I think people are getting a little overhyped about this but it is easy to do considering it is the SEC that is about to launch it's own network.

Let's keep in mind though who the measure is based off of. That would be the BTN and the BTN makes more money off of basketball than it does football.

60% of the proceeds from the BTN are from advertising. Advertising dollars are directly related to the amount of live games you can have advertising on. The replays bring less funds but they still get you better money than the talk shows and information spots that the Networks put on too.

The question for me is how well will the SECN be able to monetize SEC baseball? They will still make good money on basketball but no way they can charge the same amount in advertising that the BTN can for spots during Big Ten basketball on BTN.

When these networks show football they do not show the best match ups, please remember that. CBS gets the absolute best SEC match ups and then ABC/ESPN soak up the rest of the quality match ups. The SEC will be showing the tier 3 matchups on it's Network. That is why it has to monetize other sports in order to reach that lofty 1 billion mark.

Which sports will get it there? Is Baseball really that big of a draw?

NFL was a few years ago. With the BTN and NFL Network already out there, SEC shouldn't have too hard of a time.
