Lets get over the poor decision with the game decided. USM played like a NCAA team and showed they have the talent to play in the tourney.

The best C-USA tournament game I have ever seen and that includes the 2005 title game (Louisville vs. Memphis; the game Darius Washington missed 2 of 3 from the line at the end). You should be nothing but proud of your team. And I know I sound like a Donnie Tyndall worshipper, but I can't say enough for the guy. He is a damn good coach.
You know what I really like about all of this....no excuse from out posters!
About the only excuse we could make.. horrible FT shooting on our end. Other than that, that game was everything you wanted... great shots, great defense, overtime, fantastic coaching decisions, etc.
I would be willing to bet that real college bb fans tuned into that game...CBS has to be happy with that as the wake-up call game.

That was very much unlike us. Usually we hold the ball. We have even taken shot clock violations at the end of games and turned the ball over instead of taking a shot with a lead. The guy who shot it was Antonio Barton and he has been out with an injury for the last six weeks. He should have known better.
Maybe Pastner was thinking higher margin of victory for +1 better seed...it really didn't matter in the end...won't hold it against you guys.
Good Luck in the dance!
I don't think he was going for that angle.
Antonio Barton just acted like an azz.
I agree...just disappointed right now....was a very emotional game.
To JMS, I am betting Pastner is most likely giving him some lip right now...
That last shot just put a sour note on one of the best bball games I've seen in recent memory.
I think USM showed up the Tigers' weaknesses--our bigs more than anything, the inability to stop penetration, our inability-at least today-to deal with a zone, etc., etc. At times, you drove to the rim unimpeded.
Our bigs seem to have gone into reverse since the middle of the season. Thank god, Adonis Thomas and Chris Crawford have stepped up.
If some things don't get corrected our stay at the dance will be short. But playing against one of the most intense opponents I've seen in a Cusa game hopefully prepares Memphis for some tough games ahead.
USM has some great talented starters in Mills and Davis and Boardingham--well, really in all of them.
I can't imagine how well USM should do next year.

Thanks, but USM wrote the book today on how to beat Memphis. That may sound strange since Memphis won, and Memphis has lost to other teams this season, but I think there's some truth in there somewhere.
Every team Memphis plays in the tourney will study the tape hard.

Great game but Memphis won't make it past the round of 32.
Very good seasons by both teams. Fans should be proud.

RE: ***2013 Conference USA Championship Game: #1 Memphis vs. #2 Southern Miss***
We have a hard time matching up with MEM. Their ball movement is as good as anybody in the country and if they are hitting from the outside, it will be hard to hang with them.
Defensively (which I think is the key), I think our only chance is to back off of our full court pressure style and modify our 2-3 match-up zone by swarming the perimeter and sacrifice the paint a little on defense. IMO, Boardingham and Mills are going to have to hang tough inside while staying out of foul trouble so we can dedicate more pressure to the outside. It's a lot to ask for, but we are playing one of the best teams in country. If we leave the outside open, we are toast.
Both teams will probably be a little weary and I expect a few more mistakes from both teams b/c of this.
This is the match-up that most wanted to see and in 8 hrs we will find out if Tyndall and company can pull out a victory that would top off a very magical season.
Good luck Eagles! Play smart, play hard, and don't be afraid to win this game!!!
Sorry Memphis fans....can't give you well wishes for this one.
we lost this at the line and on the boards, but the scheme was perfect....you guys just outplayed us when it mattered...kudos

Memphis has the guard play to make it to the second weekend. We have to get more out of Black and Goodwin to go deeper.

heck, we didn't really get outplayed on teh boards...
Rebounds: 40/37
Offensive Rebounds: 10/12
It was the missed Ft's that sunk us eventually (and ironically it was Memphis's missed FT's that kept us in it).

Not necessarily. Josh Pastner has done an admirable job and Memphis produces tough teams year in and year out. C-USA as a whole really did Memphis a disservice. We were so weak that there was no way we were going to prepare any team for the tournament.
