Did you guys also happen to notice which league tourney had the largest attendance? It was the BE. That disproves the thought about the Acc having the largest attended tourney. Next, year, once mabe when, Louisville and SU come aboard, I believe that the Acc will have the largest attended tourney.
I am also surprised that the Acc average attendance is #4 of the big leagues. I think SU and Louisville could certainly help in that area, but I dont know if it would improve the Acc's rank? The Big 10 attendance is incredible. I think they lead the major conferences in attendance in both basketball and football.

You mean Louisville playing Syracuse brought more than Miami could? Shocker!

Actually, the average for the Acc includes all of the Acc tourney games. Same for the BE. But I dont believe those averages were butts in the seats. If it were, the difference between the two leagues would have been even larger.

The Miami figure is wrong. We had an average of 5,814 this year, not 3,936. That was our last year's figure. We increased by about 2,000.

Seriously, NCAA? Seriously?

These figures are from last year.

They have 12 teams in the SEC and 16 in the BE. Neither of those are correct.

I guess it is '11-'12. I don't know why the NCAA would relase this say "2013 Men's Basketball - Attendance".

It is probably like their other stats reports. It was released for this school year but it covers data through last year.

I think ACC attendance is influenced by the fact that it has more private schools and probably has lower average enrollment and smaller alumni/ae bases.

Obviously my argument falls apart when you bring Syracuse into the mix: a private school which will suddenly lead the league in attendance. But Syracuse is definitely the exception, not the rule.

I feel like private schools have fan bases that are more spread out than public schools because there isn't as strong of an incentive for instate kids to go to them. I think public schools tend to have a higher percentage of instate students.

After next year the ACC will have 6 private schools which is the same as the Big 12+Big 10+ SEC+ Pac 12 combined.

That must be tickets sold not attended. If you've looked VT's coliseum on TV, there's no way it's 90% full.

Thats because SU is a large private, with a larger enrollment than many public schools. Its very different from most private schools that have 3-10,000 total enrollment.

True...another factor is Syracuse is a medium sized metro with no major league sports...Syracuse is their pro team in CNY. Creighton's attendance is also awesome...like Syracuse another medium sized metro (Omaha) with no major league sports.
