I'm a Pitt fan and OF COURSE Pitt changed conferences for the money - just like every other school that has ever changed leagues has ALWAYS done it for the money.
Looking at the contract the Aresco 12 signed with ESPN as compared with the ACC's deal, it was obviously the right call.
I think most Pitt fans feel badly for UConn - and to a lesser extent Cincy and USF - but our survival was at stake and we knew it. We also knew that adding Villanova to our conference was a dramatic step in the wrong direction and we wanted ABSOLUTELY NO PART of that nonsense.
Nobody has a problem with you leaving, the problem is how you did it. Pitt.'s AD and Prez championed turning down the ESPN offer all the time they were negotiating with the ACC. That was a huge stab in the back by Pitt. and Syracuse. Just remember, what goes around comes around, someday you two will get yours.

RE: Boeheim Tweaks UConn
My thought on why he said it, and why I suspect he will continue to say it to recruits, is to marginalize a major regional recruiting rival. The more he creates an impression of separation between the ACC and that other league that “… Connecticut's going to be in,” the more he will be able to persuade top recruits the UConn is now a "mid-major" (or is, at least, in a mid-major league).

Except that Syracuse advocated taking the ESPN offer.

Exactly this. JC and JB are both friends and are both old school cranky old men. For those of you not from the north this is how we talk about our friends. The day we stop talking $hit about them is the day we no longer like them.
Thank you, this seems like the most likely explanation from my outsiders perspective. I have experienced the northeast in a limited fashion but just from that I can agree that northeasterners deal with each other much differently than most others do.
That quote has nothing to do with cultural differences. It has to do with the fact that Boeheim is an arsehole who likes to take shots at others. This one is just a little uglier thn most.
You are from Iowa, right? Tom Arnold is from Iowa and he's not a junkie goof because he's from Iowa; he's just a junkie goof who happens to be from Iowa. Same principle.
Ease up on the throttle Yinzer. I didn't say all Northeasterners are arseholes. I said they deal with each other differently than most others do. You can assume I meant that all are arseholes but that is not what I meant. If I had to pick a single term, I would pick bluntness. Northeasterners are very blunt.
To a true northener arsehole is a term of endearment. I take the word as a compliment. That changes however when you add the F word to it. Call me an arsehole and I smile and say thanks. Call me an F'ing arsehole and its on!
We Yankees are a strange bunch.

There was no certainty at the time that Pitt was going to be leaving the Big East so to act like Pitt was trying to screw over the conference is just not true. They wanted to make sure that if they ended up staying, the Big East was getting the best deal possible.
West Virginia and Rutgers were also actively seeking ways out of the conference for just as long as Pitt had been and both also voted against the tv deal so to act like Pitt was operating as some lone villain in this is ridiculous. Pitt, WVU, and Rutgers often operated as a voting bloc and obviously all thought that the conference could do better. Regardless, the tv deal almost certainly would have been ripped up anyway once Pitt and Syracuse left so it's not like that original tv deal that was turned down would stand.

As a UConn fan/alum, I really have no problem with what Boeheim said. He wasn't putting down UConn. He was putting down the new conference in relation to the ACC.
Boeheim is usually a classy guy. Maybe he thought this comment was off the record, or maybe he just had a brain fart. I'm not going to get the torches and pitchforks out because of this.

I don't remember WVU's president or Rutgers' president, or whatever they have, being in charge of the committee to decide on the contract and then advocating against the new TV contract and then announcing they were leaving the conference a few weeks, if that, after the conference turned down the new contract
I may be wrong but I don't think I am

Or maybe it was taken out of context...as in part of a larger comment.

Yep, Syracuse was so afraid of Uconns success that SU left for the Acc to leave Uconn to rule the new conference. It all revolves around Uconn and not SU looking out for numero uno, first.

Your whole premise is ridiculous. But I wouldnt worry much about JB's comments if I were a Uconn fan like you who thinks their program is so superior to SU. IF Uconn is all that great, someone, besides the whatucall-it league should want them dont you think?

100% correct. UConn will be fine. Realignment is far from over.
If I was JB I wouldn't worry about Uconn so much so that I'd throw a superior program under the bus like that. JB should aspire to achieve what Connecticut has.
