Might want to watch the spoilers haha.

I think it's safe to say everyone has a long way to go. Only 5 of the 7 books are even out. It's all about the journey

Great episode last night... When reading Book 3, I noticed I was becoming very empathetic towards Jaime Lannister during tub scene. Very impressed that they captured that same emotion in last nights episode.

This week's episode was probably my least favorite and the most divergent from the book. There were a lot of great scenes, but as I read somewhere, very little moved forward. With that being said, you need these episodes for context purposes. And there was some great dialogue. Each season needs 2-3 of these to prep and build context for the bigger action scenes.

The scene that book readers have been dreading and anticipating since the show started. Red Wedding > Ned's death ... mainly because you get to know them through the first three seasons. And typical story lines in these cases have the son avenging the father. Well, so much for that.

I feel the exact same way I felt after the ninth episode of season 1, numb and saying "did that really just happen?".
Two years later I'm still waiting for joffrey's head on a platter... That's the awful part and why I like this show at the same time. If you love characters, he'll rip them from your world while serving no justice to those that wronged them.
Please no spoilers past the recent episodes, I have NOT read the novels.

I was dreading this episode. I knew what was coming... Just hoping it wouldn't happen. I'm just curious as to where they will end the 3rd season.

Gotta read the books. It's worth the time to read every last page. So much confusion....and then pieces come together (a bit).

No ... I don't think so. That would be advancing too far into the plot line. They still need some climactic moments for next season.

You were right. I thought the last episode was a real let down. Tried to deal with too many plot segments in 5 minute chunks.

RE: OT: Game of Thrones
I'm fascinated by a lot of people's reactions to the finale. I don't think you're going to get many "perfect" episodes where everyone loves it, but I thought they did a great job. Honestly, I think it helps to have read the books and to know what is coming. You can see them beautifully setting up everything that goes down in Season 4. I would argue that Season 4 is going to be better than Season 3 in a lot of ways, which says a lot considering Season 3 was so damn good.

I never read Game of Thrones. I just picked up with Clash of Kings after watching the first season. I breezed through the books and loved every second. I also missed a lot. I went back and got Game of Thrones and made a concerted effort to read it as soon as the 3rd season concluded. I was somewhat hesitant ... I know in hindsight that I missed a lot of detail by not reading the book but was afraid that, since I know what happens, it would be harder to read it. Well, boy was I wrong. I started last night since there was no Nats game to entertain me and I got through the first 4 chapters in about 45 minutes. I'm up to page 50 ... and had a really hard time putting it down.

So far what I had heard has been confirmed. The first season of GOT sticks very, very, closely to the book. Clash of Kings and season 2 are also pretty close, with a few deviations. The show has really started to take liberties with the show now, though, as the books become even more complex and the show, logistically and understandably, has to consolidate characters, eliminate other characters, and tweak story lines to make it fit better on TV. I think the show has done an incredible justice to the books, and 99% of the time the major story is being held together (major events, characters, etc), where the end game of the story arc is the same, it just takes a couple of different ways to get there. One example for those that haven't read the books ... is that Stannis had another bastard of Robert, called Edrick, in his possession the entire time. Gendry, in the books, stays with the Brotherhood without Banners. In the show, they eliminate Edrick and have Mel travel to get Gendry. Logistically it kind of makes sense of the show in that it eliminates a paid actor in a minor role and replaces a character you don't really relate to or sympathize with in the book (Edrick) and replaced him with a character we had grown affectionate of (Gendry). If you dig too deep, though, you start to uncover some holes ... like how was Melisandre able to travel the equivalent of 1,500-2,000 miles in one episode by boat and horse to get from Storms End to the Riverlands? Anyway, those are just some minor glitches ... on the whole, wow. What a production on paper and on screen.

Season 4 is going to be epic.

They also consolidated Willam and the Knight of Flowers. Also, Tyrion's nose should have cut completely off and scabbed over. He always picked at it in the books.

Without going spoiler-mode here ... the main complaint I have is how they re-introduced Jaime in KL. In the books, his return is much more ... interesting. And based on where it fell in Book 3 ... it shouldn't have occurred until midway through next season. I guess they thought the show viewers had had enough of "the adventures of Jaime and Brienne of Tarth" ... although I heard nothing but positive things from show-only viewers on those interactions, and I think it would have been an interesting dynamic to see them on the road again, this time as friends.

I feel Jaime has changed so much. Other than him pushing off Bran, he seems like a nice guy! 03-drunk

RE: OT: Game of Thrones
I was wondering this a few weeks back and it's been bugging me ever since. In the books, did Ramsay "modify" Theon like they did in the show? I don't recall any chapter involving Theon/Reek in Book 5 of him mentioning not being uh...totally a man, for lack of a better term.

Seems a little unnecessary to me to have had that scene, but I guess we can deduce that GRR Martin doesn't have too much planned for Theon (at least in terms of his contribution to the Grejoy lineage) later in the series considering the producers generally check in with him before making a big decision like that.

This is getting into spoiler territory ... but there was strong hinting in the books that he was castrated.
