Just bought a new tiny tailgate grill for the Hounds games, so was hoping to break it in at the spring game (Hounds season starts 4/27). Worst case I can always just get some pork at Boardwalk Billy's before the game.
Not free, $10. Are they free at most schools?
Yes NN, they are usually free. I've actually never been to one that cost anything to get in, and I've been to several over the years. However, we have very different circumstances than most schools. This is our very first big planned football event. Our stadium should be packed. It's not like that most places for the spring game.
If you expect it to be packed you will probably be disappointed.
We've sold like 450 general admission tickets. FSL holders account for about 5,000, but I doubt they're all going to show up. Students will probably show up well though.

Its actually $15 per ticket now
LOL. Yeah, I'll just read about it in the paper the next day.... I've gone to BCS spring games for free, so not paying for this one. This would have been a great opportunity to introduce the program to the surrounding non-alum community, but a $15 cost doesn't feel very inviting. Those of you that go: have fun! However, I'm going to sit this one out. I'll try to catch a game eventually though.
The FSL owners had to pay $10 per seat for the Spring Game so they obviously felt they couldn't make it free to the general public. This will also be their first run on tailgating and parking, so naturally they were concerned that if 10,000 showed up they wouldn't have the staff/parking on hand to deal with it. Better 5000 show up and have a good experience than 10,000 show up and come away with bad experiences related to parking/tailgating. I think in the futrue it will be free.

I get that you guys are excited (first "kinda, sorta" game and all) so please don't take this the wrong way, but... there was zero danger of 20,000 people showing up for this, free or otherwise. As I said, I will definitely try to check out a game when the season starts and cheer for you guys. However, (spoiler alert) spring games really aren't that exciting, so the idea of paying anything more than a couple bucks is anathema to me. I honestly thought game & parking would both be free. That seemed like the smart play to me.
Mistype, its why I changed it to 10,000.

Everyday I mention it on campus and EVERYDAY... people are like, what's the Spring Game... THE WORST on-campus promotion of a BIG event ever!

I am not sure I would classify a spring game as a "BIG" event but it may be a little different for you guys since your program is so new.

Fifteen dollars for a spring game? Ludicrous. UTEP gave away free hotdogs and still managed only 2500 fans. But I guess since it's something new there's always the new car smell factor.

I'm hoping this is the only year they charge for it. Not sure why they are this year.
People have been fairly receptive to it I guess. We've sold about 800 general admission seats, distributed over 1,700 to students (a lot will probably just pick them up the day of the game), and all 5,000ish season ticket holders have them.
Doubt we'll have a full house, but I think we can get over 9,000.

that 15 dollar deal looks like it's just for your alumni association's pregame tailgate shindig.
the football game itself appears to be 10 bucks for everyone with students free....

Nice work 49ers! Love the drop down stadium style. Just looks awesome IMHO(Always like the Duke stadium even though its tiny). That with the brick makes it look like you've been playing football for 90 years. Love it!

Thanks. While most of us aren't happy with how long it has taken to get football, almost all of us agree that once the decision was made to start football, our AD has implemented it pretty well.

As of this morning 925 sold through ticket return, 500-600 for the alumni tailgate, 1700 student requests, and then another 5,000 FSL holders. Also, I'm sure they are allowing the football players to give away as many as they want to family and friends.
I'm thinking around 8K should be the number.

At some schools....Spring Game is a BIG Event...(much bigger than any home basketball game).
Some schools, like Rutgers, plan one of their largest days of the entire Calendar...as RU's Spring Game always takes place on "Rutgers Day", which is a huge celebration for the entire Univ, and generally a giant open-house that attracts thousands of alumni and scores of future potential students.
2013 Spring Game Attendance for those that have already played their game:
1. Nebraska: 60,174
2. Kentucky: 50,831 (record crowd for UK)
3. Texas: 46,000
4. Texas A&M: 45,212
5. Georgia: 45,113
6. Ohio State: 37,643* (Played at Bengals NFL Stadium in Cincinnati)
7. South Carolina: 35,218
8. Louisville: 33,000
9. Clemson: 30,000
10. Oklahoma: 29,200

Now over 1,500 GA tickets requested by fans. I'm sure by now we're over 2k from students, then we have 4k from FSL owners. Should be a good crowed on Saturday.
