First school to ever make a BCS game, men's Final 4, and women's Final 4 in the same academic year.

RE: Louisville Women in Final Four !
Cool stuff. Six teams of ACC circa 2014, made the women's tourney.

1 Notre Dame
2 Duke
3 North Carolina
5 Louisville
7 Syracuse
8 Miami

The number next to the school is what their seed was.

The women's final four is...

5 Louisville - 2 Cal
1 Notre Dame - 1 Connecticut

No, we are the tenth team to do it. Still it is an elite group to be in.

Quote:Interesting historical note - between 1969 (the first year with an organized women's national championship tournament) and 1999, there were only three years in which men's and women's teams from the same school both made the Final Four in the same year: Indiana in 1973, Georgia in 1983, and Duke in 1999. Since 1999, however, it has happened five years in a row: Oklahoma in 2002, Texas in 2003, Connecticut in 2004 (the only time a school has won the men's and women's championships in the same year), Michigan State in 2005, and Louisiana State in 2006. Both Connecticut teams made the Final Four in 2009 and 2011 too.

However, we are the first school to WIN a BCS bowl and send both men's and women's teams to the final four in the same year.

CollegeCard listed three criteria for a new record. Don't believe the schools you listed won a FB BCS game the same year they had teams in both NCAA BB Final Fours.

I said that but then corrected myself because LSU did it, but I don't think LSU's was the same academic year - their BCS bowl win counted for the following academic year I think

From what I've seen UofL is the first school to win a BCS game, make a men's Final 4, and make a women's Final 4 in the same academic year.

I suspect you were referencing LSU making both Final 4's in March 2006, but their football team was only in the Peach Bowl that school year. Same with Oklahoma. They made the 2002 final 4's but the football team not in a BCS game that school year.

Top 15 in both baseball and softball as well. Great year for us and ample justification for our addition. Sorry to those who feel like we are tooting our own horn, but after being repeatedly told on the message boards that we were just not worthy (wvu,UK), this is very satifying!04-rock

Congrats to the Cards.

And never apologize for tooting your own horn, when it's as deserved as it is this year.

Cheers,
Neil

RE: Louisville Women in Final Four !
Since I have in a past life been accused of being a Big East homer, perhaps I shouldn't ask this. But does anybody else find it a bit sad that in both this year's men's (50%) & women's (75%) final fours, a conference that has ceased to exist because it wasn't worthy of eating at the adult table is dominant?

Am I glad to be in the ACC? Very.

Am I glad to see the demise of the Big East? It makes me sick.

I still maintain that if basketball were marketed better, it could be as lucrative as football. At least the ACC is poised to dominate if that ever happens.

Louisville has had a great year in all sports.

It has a well run athletic program and is a great addition to the ACC.

Congrats all around, Cards.

I've seen much more interest in NCAA Basketball this year than I've noticed in the last few years. Maybe because of realignment or network coverage or more close competition with so many No.1's this season as well as the last real Big East season. Whatever the reason, I'm loving it!
