This recent early graduation thing is becoming somewhat puzzling

Yeah, I think the NCAA is discovering the law of unintended consequences. I also wonder if the staff will push the next round of kids into getting degrees in three years, or maybe shoot for fall of senior year instead.

A coach and a program bust their tails to not only help kids get a degree, but get a degree early, and it leads to the kids being able to act as "free agents" even IF everything is ok at the current program.

Seriously, IF they wanted, Joe, Chris, Antonio and Tarik could all leave and go to the same school somewhere else and play immdiately.

That is dangerous.

I wonder what sort of degrees [majors] these guys are all of a sudden getting in 3 years; all the while playing and practicing basketball virtually year round?

Interdisciplinary Studies. The fact that a university offers this as a degree is a joke.

RE: Jason Smith tweet concerning Tarik
CMB, I wondered how long it would take you to come out and take pot shots again at CJP.

You want to try and drive a correlation between Adonis and Tarik leaving..."are these Memphis kids leaving the program early?" Then you try to connect dots by saying "they are making a statement about their skill development."

It's such an incredibly long list of Memphis kids leaving, by the way. {sarcasm}

Adonis leaving early is a pure financial decision, period. Everyone knew he was gone after this year, this is no surprise. The incoming Freshman class is LOADED, and many of those are expected to be one-and-done's. NBA draft gurus are already stating about how much stronger next year's draft will be compared to this year's draft. He waits another year, and his chances diminish, not get better. So why not begin trying to "Play for Pay" now, even if it may not be the NBA?

Tarik is Tarik. It's been said before that he's not a sports nut, and his fire has been questioned more than once. Size is one thing, but heart is another. IF he doesn't have that high-level motor - AND, he's graduating - then he may not WANT to stay in school. Or maybe he wants to go out of town. Who knows? But, his display of disrespect to his teammates (practice, not standing up when everyone else on the bench was fired up) could indicate he's not happy. And if not, then he has options. Why not take time to consider them?

BTW, there's also talk of AB and Hipp leaving....but since they're not a "Memphis kid" that doesn't further your biased argument, so you carefully avoiding mentioning them in your rebuttal.

Adonis is leaving to pursue his dream. I applaud him for that, it would've been EASY for him to stay, but he's choosing to take a difficult path. Much respect to him on that.

Tarik has a choice; I know his mom and I respect the family. I support him regardless of what choice he makes.

But either way, I won't take potshots at the coaching staff to push some personal agenda.

Penny did leave after his sophomore season. But don't let facts history get in the way of a thinly veiled racist revisionist conspiracy theory.

Penny left after his junior year. He was ineligible his freshman year, the old prop 48 rule. Just a minor factor in that he was (when said and done) the #1 pick in the lottery.

Did he leave too early, like Black and Thomas are doing? Penny was drafted in the High first round, that's a no brainer. Pastner has kids leaving if they might get drafted #60. A truly different scenario.
