Exclamation Great News for Louisville Fans
It looks like the old Fairgrounds (Cardinal) Stadium will now have to be demolished.

No more people seeing that eyesore from the interstate and thinking that's our current football stadium.

I don't know of any UofL fans who are happy to see this happen. I loved that old stadium.

I know one. Not that I didn't enjoy my time in the old stadium, but I think it's time for it to be a good memory instead of an eyesore.

RE: Great News for Louisville Fans
I have memories their that started in 1971 about Louisville football, Kentucky High School Football Championship Playoffs, baseball games and Rock concerts. It was our home before Papa John's. Nevertheless, it would be a waste of money to try and improve it. It is time to take it down.

My perspective (as an outsider)

Tear it down. I've driven by it a few times. It looks like a 1960s AAA baseball stadium on Steroids. The land is too valuable. Would the Fair consider an amphitheater?

RE: Great News for Louisville Fans
I wouldn't mind seeing the football team go over there one time for a practice or something just so they know where their predecessors once played, and give them some sort of appreciation for the past achievements that took place playing in an old run down baseball stadium. There are memories and then there are MEMORIES of that place, but it will not be missed IMO as it is a eyesore now, but in the days of the CRUNCHZONE it was big time IMHO. Go Cards!!!

RE: Great News for Louisville Fans
I spent many Days and Nights in that Stadium from since the late Sixties, concerts, State Fairs, Red Birds games, 1st Thunder over Louisville, Louisville Football Games, and the like. I remember when expansion to the stadium was being looked at and the UK fan state leaders only could come up with those horrible metal bleachers on the east side and No easy access to the West and South side from there. Time to say GoodBye, But Thanks for Many Great Memories.
I think the Silos are Cool looking really but also past their prime from view.

They've debated putting an ampitheater or a 70,000-square-foot warehouse on the site. But like with most other things right now, they don't have the money to tear it down or build something new.

I would love to see a return of the Louisville /Fairgrounds motor Speedway. Short track racing at it's best. They have the room after that comes down and would be sellouts every friday, Saturday night. add an 1/8 mile drag strip as an option.04-cheers

RE: Great News for Louisville Fans
My first memories were from a state fair concert around 1974, then the 1976 AAA high school football championship, then it's where I attended games when I was at UofL. I haven't been back in it since I graduated college though.

I have great memories of it, but it's not owned by the university and it's been allowed to deteriorate to the point that it's actually an eyesore and an embarrassment. That wouldn't be so bad, but it's so visible that I'm sure many people who aren't Card fans see it from the interstate and think that's our home stadium.

It would be nice if the athletic department could get its hands on bricks, etc. and market them to alumni/fans to benefit the program. I'd gladly buy a piece of that history.

I'm pretty sure it WAS a 1960's AAA stadium at one point....

I understand the nostalgia for some UofL fans, but it's time for it to come down, when they get the demo $$ at least. It's obviously not feasible to put millions into renovating what would still be an oudated relic that is sparsely used. An amphitheater would be nice but a warehouse sounds most likely. I don't know the politics behind that one.
