1999 Season:
James Madison W 47-0
U A B W 45-28
Clemson W 31-11
at #24 Virginia W 31-7
at Rutgers W 58-20
#16 Syracuse W 62-0
at Pittsburgh W 30-17
at West Virginia W 22-20
#19 Miami (FL) W 43-10
at Temple W 62-7
#22 Boston College W 38-14
#1 Florida State (Sugar Bowl) L 29-46
The Hokies played 5 ranked teams that year and beat 4 of them.
Regardless if the 1999 season was more impressive the 1918 squad was the only undefeated season for the "Fighting Gobblers". The reason so many colleges were forced to drop football down to a club sport is because of WWI, and as we all know Virginia Tech always sends a lot of its students to war when our nation calls.
But checkout the 1905 season below:
Sat., Sep 30, 1905 Roanoke College W, 86-0
Fri., Oct 6, 1905 Cumberland (Tenn.) W, 12-0
Sat., Oct 14, 1905 at Army W, 16-6
Sat., Oct 21, 1905 Gallaudet W, 56-0
Sat., Oct 28, 1905 North Carolina W, 35-6
Sat., Nov 4, 1905 at Virginia W, 11-0
Sat., Nov 11, 1905 Washington & Lee W, 15-0
Sat., Nov 18, 1905 South Carolina W, 34-0
Sat., Nov 25, 1905 at Navy L, 6-12
Thu., Nov 30, 1905 VMI W, 34-0
Overall: 9-1 Conference: 0-0
