The database is including 1962-1981. It leaves out 1982-1996.

Since 1997, Marshall is 74-21 at home (.779).

... and .779 would be the best since 1997:

Marshall: .779 (74-21)
USM: .713 (62-25)
La Tech: .679 (55-26)
UTSA: .667 (4-2)
ECU: .607 (54-35)

UTEP: .560 (51-40)

Tulane: .489 (45-47)
FAU: .463 (19-22)
North Texas: .427 (35-47)
FIU: .413 (19-27

In my opinion, you've pointed out 1 of 2 real "misses" in this ranking.

1. Home field advantage can only be determined over years of history, not just one year. I don't know how you can truly measure anything except team performance in a single season.

2. True home field advantage is only demonstrated when the winning % at home is compared to the program's winning % on the road. The Herd's 86.6% wins at home is impressive. I don't know what the road win % is during those same years, but it's much lower than 86%, thus a home field advantage for Marshall.

IMHO, the formula that they used is pretty good, they missed a couple of pretty important data points.

Agreed. Give me home winning % weighted with some sort of SOS metric versus the same stat on the road. The difference in those two numbers is on the way to a true home field advantage metric.

I was surprised at see how few people go to Marshall games. Here is an article from 2011 that names the quietest stadiums. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/72869...try/page/2

"split crowd"? Uh.. sure. Like 75/25. They make it sound 50/50, which is total BS.

You will be welcomed with open arms. Stop by any tailgate and share a brew and some grub. Glad you are coming up.

I can attest to this. The Herd fans were awesome to me and my family this past season. Easily the best hospitality we've received on the road. 04-cheers

We are planning to fly up to Louisville this year for the Friday night UCF/Louisville game and were hoping the Herd were at home that Saturday so we could stop by the Joan for another game...turns out it's a bye week for Marshall.

I'm assuming that was written by the wvu grad that writes for bleacher report. Two things make me believe this, the fact that they use a pre-game picture to show our crowd and the fact that wvu had 8,000 out of 41,000 at our 2010 game and he calls it a split crowd. I guess that if any opponent brings 1 fan it is technically a split crowd, but you get the point.

Herd fans are some of the best in CUSA and in the country.

During the basketball season, during a game CBS referred to a Bleacher Report article and had to chuckle at how, in my opinion, CBS Sports was refusing to acknowledge the mistake they had made in their investment.

I remember after we played KState in 2005 one of their players said in post game that The Joan was one of the loudest places he had ever played in. Said it was hard to hear and think. I long for those days. The ECU game in 2011 was pretty loud and we only had 24,000 and change in attendance. Was surprised how loud it was when I got home from the game and watched the broadcast.

North Texas had no advantage at all during our years at Fouts.

Apogee has been a different story.

Since moving into Apogee UNT has gone 7-4 (.636) at home, and scored 303 points while giving up 233 points.

Because the seats were so low and a mile away from the seats. There was no noise factor whatsoever, even if we had a sellout or a near one. Apogee, 15K people can be in attendance and the noise factor is massive. It was incredibly loud at the ULL game on TV and in person.

Their ranking is only based on 2012 record. So last year had several of those rare losses at home and got you 0 points in that category. A team that was undefeated got 1.5 points.

...and any fan of a team that's ever played in Hattiesburg knows the real home field advantage that the Golden Eagles have. A one year snapshot of most anything is unfair for the long term.
