Houston pitching themselves to XII - will it work?
http://www.sportstalkflorida.com/db-onli...ljgQdf2.01
An Orlando radio host with a connection to the UH athletic dept. talking about how Houston is talking to the XII. No confirmation whatsoever that there is any reciprocal interest, but the source within Houston said they were looking to bolt the AAC either after this upcoming season or within the next couple of years.

The source did not say specifically, but did say that they are talking to the XII and evaluating all the options. I have to think the MWC could be one of those options. The source said they are actively looking to leave the American.

No, UT Austin wants nothing to do with U of H. Nuff said! Next topic.

This isn't news. Every team in the AAC is pitching their program to the Big 12. To include USF, UCF, UConn, Cincy, Temple, Memphis, UH, and SMU. Why is this newsworthy. It only becomes newsworthy if their is credible evidence that the B12 is interested in UH (or any other AAC team for that matter).

My guess is it will work about as well as UC's Christmas cards to the ACC. Nothing against UH (good program) but B12 doesn't really need another Texas team.

And go where??? To the B12? Not likely, as long as there are 4 Texas teams already. To the MWC? Why, to make less money and have less TV exposure? Again, not likely.
If the AAC started losing teams, then yes, the MWC might, emphasize might, become a viable option. If the AAC started losing teams first.

I hope they are talking to the big 12 and I HOPE there is a little interest there.
And I said after Boise pulled from the AAC that Houston should look into the MWC at that time.
But I'm glad we get 1 year to win are conference and get an autobid to the orange bowl

I would agree. Pitching a school to a conference is one thing, but having that interest reciprocated is totally another.

Why? You have the same access in the AAC AND make more money in AAC AND get more TV exposure. Plus you get a year of auto bid, and potentially better long term bowls. I can't think of one reason to leave AAC for MWC (unless of course the AAC starts losing teams left and right).

Yeah, a 5th Texas school in the Big 12 is no more likely to happen than a 5th California school in the Pac-12 or a 5th North Carolina school in the ACC.
Still, it's smart to make the pitch and to let your boosters/alums/media know that you're making the pitch, just so the faithful don't get restless and accuse the school AD/president of doing nothing to try to get their team into a better league.

Not surprised, but I just can't see a conference wanting 5 Texas teams instead of expanding into both Florida and Ohio.

Pretty much this. Just like Temple, UConn, Cinci, and USF pitched themselves to the ACC. It only matters if the B-12 is interested and I dont think they really need a 5th Texas team. The only reason I can think it might be interesting to the Big-12 is as a couter balance to the SEC intrusion into south Texas---where no Big-12 team exists.

LOL! If the Big 12 takes Houston and SMU, will everybody quit giving the MAC a hard time for having 6 teams in Ohio?
I don't think Houston and the Big 12 will get together, but it does add some smoke that both Houston and the Big 12 are restless and considering their options. So it is more likely that the Big 12 takes 2 other AAC teams and then Houston finally calls Thompson from the MWC. Thompson will answer that call.

The Big 12 showed a lot more interest in talking to us after the Pac 12 came down for a tour/visit.
Still no chance of the Big 12 unless and until Deloss Dodds retires.

Actually, the Orlando host heard the rumor from a couple of OU guys while covering the CUSA softball tournament in Tulsa, and called a UH source who verified.

It is worth a try (TCU shopping themselves around worked out well). Ultimately I think Houston ends up in the MWC...

And Bill Powers. And everyone working in the UT AD who remembers Bleachergate the last time Texas played Houston.
