I think boston U would be a great hockey only addition to the big 10, they would also fit into the cic fine. Yet, bu is probably happy where they are hockey wise.

Maybe it's a midwest/mid-Atlantic thing. Here in California I've never heard anyone ever utter the word lacrosse unless it was related to the Duke lacrosse team scandal. I doubt you could even find 1 person out of 100 who could describe what the game or the equipment look like.
I've heard more discussion of and enthusiasm for curling here in LA than for lacrosse.
Google "lacrosse, growth" in the news section and the results will be enlightening. Practically every non traditional lax area except southern Cal has explodii ng interest. Some stories ars about lax growng too fast.
Would love curling to be an NCAA sport. N Dakota would dominate!

Lacrosse is on par with field hockey in the minds of most.

None of the remaining ACC teams needed an AQ, the ACC will be fine and probably didn't pursue Hop anyways. The ECAC on the other hand, is screwed.
And Hopkins will be joining with all of its D1 sports.

Who is the best option for the ACC to take if they need a 6th. I'm not talking about any full member schools like Loyola(MD) who is in the Patriot for all sports. I'm talking ECAC or affiliate members of other conferences.

Are you trying to say that 16 million people care about college lacrosse? That's probably a good ballpark estimate. That's a huge number, and makes the topic worthy of discussion.

They don't need a sixth.
Whoever wins the ACC makes it into the tourney (along with three or four other ACC teams). Adding the AQ is redundant.
That being said, Georgetown or navy would make the most sense.

I don't really see any other associate members for the Big Ten. It was basically a perfect storm for this JHU situation: lacrosse is JHU's *only* Division I sport (so they're technically "all in" for D1 sports in the Big Ten), it's an academic powerhouse located in an area that the Big Ten is specifically expanding in, and the Big Ten needed 1 more school to get a lacrosse AQ bid. There's no comparison to schools like Notre Dame or BU that have a full slate of Division I sports.

Good for Hopkins.
They'll get to be Big 10 champs pretty much every year for at least a decade.

the ACC dosnt need autobid, they will continue to get multibids to the post season. Question is dsoes the ecac fold? down to 4
Bellarmine...ASUN?
Fairfield...colonial? maac?
Hobart...?
Air Force...?
the north eastern nees a 6th but dont think they would be appealing to hobart or Fairfield

To be sure, Maryland is as much of a lacrosse powerhouse as JHU. It would likely trade off between those two, although Ohio State has been looking good lately (and they have more athletic funds than anyone).

Johns Hopkins to join Big Ten Monday
(06-02-2013 05:41 PM)gosports1 Wrote: Cant say im surprised.
So what happens to the the ecac now?
The MAAC will be down to six after all of its shuffling - they are losing full member Loyola (MD) and affiliates VMI and Jacksonville - they can grab Hobart.
The CAA is losing Penn State to the Big Ten. The CAA can grab Fairfield for lacrosse if Fairfield isn't joining for all sports.
This leaves Bellarmine and Air Force - they join the NEC as they are down to four as Monmouth and Quinnipiac are leaving for the MAAC.
