Like England, New England isn't really known for its cuisine ... except for many great seafood and Italian restaurants.

The only bad thing about going "home" to Connecticut for me is that I really miss Mexican, Tex-Mex, and BBQ when I'm up there.

I have been out of CT for about 4 years now. Don't miss much of the food. However, I could really go for a steak bomb from D'Angelo's.

+1 When it comes to BBQ, I say yes please. I can't imagine limiting myself or more importantly my taste buds and stomach to only one form of BBQ. I was born in Eastern NC but have moved 22 times all over the world and while I love going home to visit and have some quality vinegar based Eastern NC BBQ, it is not something I would want to have all the time. I will be going to NC for a visit in a couple weeks and I always stock up on BBQ for a list of friends here in South Carolina who want me to pick some up for them. I will say living in SC right now that the mustard based BBQ is something I will try now and again but don't really care for. I do love a trip to TX, Memphis or KC for BBQ.
Good news with the AAC is my road trip list has Memphis and Texas as a regular option

No thanks to Texas B-Q. I'll take the Memphis style B-Q anytime over the Texas style. Anytime. Funny thing is, Texas proclaims itself the winner in alot of things for which it is not.

No comparison. Texas doesn't even use the right meat.

RE: BBQ wars ... Texas declares itself the winner.
I love me some BBQ. Not a huge brisket fan (unless it is done right, which a few places in Texas are able to do), but I love Texas BBQ sausage. The Czech and German immigrants in Central Texas started a good thing. I also am a huge fan of Memphis BBQ (gotta love pork ribs), and pulled pork is OK (although I haven't had it from a place in Eastern NC yet - it may skyrocket up my list once I try it there). If I had to rank BBQ regions (that I have sampled), I would say it's the following:

1) Central Texas
2) Memphis
3) St. Louis
4) Kansas City
5) East Texas
6) Houston
7) Dallas/Fort Worth
8) Western NC
9) Alabama

**still to be sampled and ranked: Eastern NC, South Carolina, and several others
***I contemplated adding in South Texas on this list, to represent my homeland, but the style of BBQ there is very different from anything that the rest of the country would call BBQ. Most out-of-towners think the sauce is salsa...

Note that I don't rank Texas as one region. That is because that would be totally and completely stupid (no matter what Texas Monthly says). Texas has several different styles of BBQ.

Better to discuss something we can all agree on, hot dogs!05-stirthepot
There is only one real hot dog and that is .............. 03-banghead
For my money it is Bright Leaf from Carolina Packers in Smithfield. All hot dogs should be red.COGS

Just give them some time, Whitey; after all, they invented that, too.

Western NC???? Have you lost your mind?

The s__t they serve west of Chapped Hole is God-awful. Anyone can burn a shoulder and cover it in ketchup; there is no "art" in that! I would not serve it to a dog.

I prefer Eastern Style BBQ but the stuff from Texas and Memphis is pretty darn tasty.

If you ever come to NC, try the following, depending on where you are at:

B's BBQ (Greenville)
The Skylight Inn (Ayden)
Bum's (Ayden)
Bullock's (Durham)
Bill Ellis BBQ (Wilson); I've only had their catered BBQ and it was fantastic.

There's a small place in Dunn (my hometown) named "Carolina Seafood and BBQ" that I need to try...fried shrimp and BBQ is an awesome combo!

You would also be surprised at how good "The Q Shack" is when in and around Raleigh.

Spot on, up to #6. I wouldn't put Houston that high. I love Rudy's (who we can't even claim as our own), but many of the spots in Houston have too much of a Mexican influence. Goode Co. is garbage, IMO. Luling is decent. I don't know, maybe there are places I'm not aware of.

Central TX is absofreakin'lutely amazing. I would die of a massive coronary at the age of 30 if I lived out there.
