This is like the 4th or 5th new band attempt there. Hard to sustain a band when you don't offer a music major.

That probably isn't the entire problem. NCSU, Georgia Tech, and other big engineering schools don't offer music majors and have 350 every year.

What hurts bands at schools like Tulane is the fact that they're small, private, and ultra selective. Duke, Tulsa, Wake Forest, Northwestern, and others are in a similar position. They do happen to have schools of music and a long time band tradition to fall back on.

I think we'll be starting out with just a drum line.

We've been through our ups and downs and I'm certain that we're on the up.

I hope they are going to be getting those new band uniforms this year. I think I've donated to that fund at least 2 straight years so I would like to hope enough money has been raised at this point.

Other than the late-arriving fans, this was a good showing by the ECU Marching Pirates.

When a band director doesn't show up the kids don't and while the band hung in there, their attendance dwelled to. No one to take leadership.

Dr. T teaches in the evening at the University. The PEP band is a paid gig. Students get paid to play in the PEP Band and the director of the PEP band is a paid graduate assistant.
just FYI

I can attest to this, because I'm in the marching band and pep band. Dr. T is very dedicated to the band, but he's also a professor that has to teach classes. That's why we have graduate/undergraduate assistants. Best believe I'll show up, because I'm getting paid for it. haha Not to mention, to be able to do something I love to do and go to football and basketball games for free without the hassle of getting a student ticket, and travelling to other places practically for almost free is awesome.

The Green Brigade is one of the best in the land.

You should expect that, from a music school.

I don't need to post videos, a quick YouTube search will get you acquainted. You've never heard Fly Like an Eagle so loud.

I heard nothing but great things about UNT. The percussionists that I know always mention UNT when talking about the best units.

According to the director they'll be getting them. Last year wasn't about a lack of funds. It was getting the new guy in there.

I'm not obligated to ignore it. It's a discussion forum. People discuss things here, including discussions about the discussion.

Sorry to the odu people that responded but my mindset is different. First off teaching explains the week games not the weekend games. Second I know allot of band directors all over the country that would be there after class was over or before. You can argue with me but I hate to say this but look at jmu band. Robert smith troy university now. And dr t may be a great teacher for a concert setting but not all director of bands cross over easily to athletic bands/marching bands. Ucf was another good band. Just an opinion and yeap everyone has one.

The nt and southern miss bands have an alum in common. Tom "bones" Malone best known for being in the blues brothers band was a member of both bands.

True...

Also in the Blues Brothers Band was another UNT alum and a UNT 1 O'Clock Lab (jazz) Band alum...Lou Marini. In that movie, Lou was the sax player in the diner playing on top of the bar as Aretha Franklin was singing.
