ESPN/Top Backcourts going in 2013-2014 College Basketball...
It is their Top 10 Backcourts...Kentucky according to them is #1 Back court...didn't put UNC in the Top 10 due to the P.J. Hairston situation:
2. Duke Blue Devils
Quinn Cook did an excellent job of running the Blue Devils offense last season. Sophomore Rasheed Sulaimon and Mississippi State transfer Rodney Hood form an athletic set of wings. Tyler Thornton is a lockdown defender and has improved his shooting. He shot 39.2 percent from the beyond the arc last season. Alex Murphy and freshman Matt Jones add depth to Duke's perimeter.
I expect Mike Krzyzewski to open the floor and attack with one of the more athletic groups he has had in recent seasons.
3. Louisville Cardinals
Louisville, with kinetic Russ Smith and juco All-American Chris Jones, will form as dynamic a backcourt as there is in the country. Smith must continue to develop as a facilitator and playmaker. His decision-making in short-clock situations was suspect early in the season. Jones' junior college coach, former Tennessee assistant Steve Forbes, raves about his toughness and competitive spirit. Those are two traits that fit well in coach Rick Pitino's relentless offensive and defensive systems.
National championship Most Outstanding Player Luke Hancock makes shots and has a high basketball IQ. He will be a great complement to Smith and Jones. Wayne Blackshear, at 6-foot-5, 230 pounds, has been a bit inconsistent due to injuries, but there is no denying his talent. If he stays healthy, the former McDonald's All American adds a unique and special piece to the Cards' perimeter game. Kevin Ware will also add toughness and maturity after he returns from injury. Freshmen Terry Rozier and Anton Gill give Louisville one of the deepest perimeter games in the country.
