Where does JMU end up?
Make your guesses now, check back later when they finally figure out what they're doing.
Please explain your choice.

No clue ~ I'll save my vote until some word comes out that makes their thinking a bit clearer.

Some more dominoes will fall and they'll wind up in the Sun Belt or C-USA, if not having stints in both.

If Banowsky bamboozles the CUSA presidents into adding 2, 4, or more additional schools to their league, then there will be more than one possible "vacancy".

RE: Where does JMU end up?
I said MAC because CUSA has 14 members and I don't think they'll go to 16. That leaves the MAC sitting at 13 and the Sunbelt at 11. Of the 2, the MAC is a lot closer.
JMU should be in Conference USA. Their budget is right there with ODU and ECU around 65th. They'd be a financial heavy weight in any of CUSA, MAC or the Sunbelt.

CAA. It just makes the most sense for JMU considering the profile of the school and the sports the CAA offers.
From what I understand, the votes just aren't there for JMU to be in CUSA. And the league has no plans to expand and if they did it would likely be a school that's already playing FBS. Since there is no financial incentive to go beyond 12 (and CUSA is at 14), I believe the door is closed for JMU to CUSA for quite some time. Even in CUSA lost schools in the future, it's a possibility it wouldn't even go beyond 12 regardless of what Banowsky may desire.
I believe their administrators would choose to stay in the CAA before going to the MAC or Sunbelt unless it were for football only.

That wouldn't surprise me if true.
I can't imagine any of the western schools want them added.

RE: Where does JMU end up?
I think of the remaining schools in FCS on the east coast they are clearly right up there at the top of the attractive candidate list along with Delaware, but I don't see them going anywhere in the near future. It appears the league they want to be in is C-USA and currently I just don't see C-USA getting bigger. Of course all it takes is 1 P5 move and the dominoes start falling again and they'd likely get there. If JMU is willing to go to the Sun-Belt they can get to the FBS level right now, but doesn't seem like they are interested in that.

Their budget must be heavily subsidized then. There is no way either JMU or ODU could match ECU's budget otherwise.

I think they pull in about 2-2.5 million in donations a year.
They could stand to cut some sports honestly. They sponsor more sports than most CUSA teams.

Both programs are subsidized, ODU more so. According to the link below, ECU's budget is subsidized 40% while ODU's is subsidized 74%. Most programs, except the big dogs, rely on student fees to fund their respective atheltic programs.

So they are subsidized 34% more than ECU. Got it.

Yep, both are subsidized, which seems to piss off some nonsports people. I guesst those folks would rather see 80,000 folks show up to watch some kid do a chemistry experiment.

The MAC has another, but evening up their FB divisions is not reason enough to take just any FCS school, so its one that could stay in the "will call" drawer for a while.

Yes, as soon as we start adding, "assuming X does something foolish against their interests because they are talked into it", the range of possibilities widens substantially.
Doesn't make it any likelier, just widens the range of discussion of highly unlikely alternatives.

With CUSA, we know that (a) they've already added at least two more new schools than they needed to add, and (b) their commissioner wants to add at least two more. So it's not just picking a conference out of a hat and saying they might do something. It's this particular conference that seems more likely than others to over-expand, or to "do something against their interests," if you want to put it that way.
