IMG bought VT a new scoreboard this offseason. It is nearly complete.

Nice improvement! One of my nieces is entering her freshman year at Virginia Tech.

New basketball scoreboard too. Can't see a whole lot but here it is:

I feel like this one gives you a sense of how big it really is. I think it will be the 8th largest in a college stadium.

It's way overdue. The old scoreboard was almost obsolete when it was installed. Our AD didn't want to pay for one so IMG (I believe) put one up as long as they could keep the advertising rights that went with it.

How does the new one compare in size? It appears to have a larger video section.

I can't find the dimensions of the old screen.

The new one is 48x108 ft for the video. The other one was only about that big total and the video was just a portion of it. I'd guess the old one was no more than 24 x 54 since it looks less than half as tall and half as wide.

The new video board should be 5,215 sq ft. placing it 8th unless one of the new ones at Texas Tech or Wisconsin are bigger.

EDIT: I think the ladder is for taking photos. The team took their photos in the West Stands recently.

That Wikipedia link says Wisconsin's is 8,500 square feet. And these things aren't as functionally large as you'd think. Schools ALWAYS throws advertising up on the board that narrows the actual video arrow. Just a forewarning. But yours is apparently going to be big regardless.

Wisconsin's is more like several video boards put together. I'm not sure if the whole thing will function as one screen. It appears to me that the center section is separate and then they'll surround it with advertising screens on the sides.
