All better, the only thing i could even find that MTSU had on us is your football.
And MTSU has been too 3 Bowls in the last 12 years.
Guess what? Memphis has been to 5 in the last 12 years

Your sadly mistaken, I know you want to believe MTSU is on pare with Memphis. But in reality Memphis is far superior.

Y'all have a decent athletic department though, its not bad. But we've worked to hard to get to where we are. And i cant let a MTSU fan argue that there better then us after everything.

Its okay to stand behind your team though, believe what you want.
But i think i got my point across.

You've "made your point"? You've listed six total sports(one we don't even sponsor unless you're referring to women's soccer) when we sponsor what? 17 or so sports in common? And outside of your lead in basketball and our lead in football, you did zero to support your claim on the other four sports you listed.

If that's what you consider "making your point" this thread is pointless.

Can y'all just start comparing dicks so we can get this over with?

Yup. I don't know one Memphis fan who hates MTSU. It's a one way loathing for the most part.

Of course your basketball team having to vacate its most successful moments doesn't help but either way it's time to stop calling it rebuilding. You are we thought you were.

We have not done the things we are doing now when it comes to "rebuilding". You're wrong. Memphis is taking strides its never done before to help the football. I wouldn't be surprised if Memphis takes y'all out saturday. That'll show you all that we're serious, and if we don't then thats fine. Getting better will have conflicts through it, we're not going to just pop up and be amazing again. Its going to be a process. In your eyes this process has been going on for 6 years. No, its been going on for just one. And this year its really kicking into gear if you ask me.

So your wrong on that behalf, BUT.
Lets just say your right about the whole "Memphis is only a basketball school statement"

At least we have a legitimate nationally recognized team.
Something MTSU will never have with its simply mediocre sports teams.
We actually have a core sport that we preform amazing in, like i said a nationally recognized team and brand.

MTSU is just basic, theres tons of colleges that preform like you.

This right here. This is the reason why we have a problem with the Memphis people. Memphis has one good program and they think their entire university has developed a "national brand." Basketball has a national notoriety but the school is not a national brand. Aside from hoops there isn't a single sport that Memphis outperforms MT at other than maybe softball (not sure.).

But our disdain for Memphis originates from this attitude. They started exactly the same way we did and because they were allowed to change their name through the years and got more money for their school from corrupt politicians than we got for ours that merits their holier than thou attitude toward MT.

There's only one thing worse than a snob. It's someone who acts like a snob but in reality has absolutely no reason for doing so. At least Vandy and Tennessee have a reason. It's just embarrassing for Memphis.

Let's review:
Baseball
MT with 13 NCAA Tournament Appearances
Memphis with 5

Basketball - Concede (although our women's program is light years ahead).

Soccer - We don't have men's soccer only women's which has only been around for about 15 years but I'll raise you volleyball. Seven straight NCAA tournaments there too. Whatcha got?

Tennis: MT has a butt load more conference championships cause Memphis doesn't have any that I can find.

Men's Tennis NCAA Tournament Appearances
Memphis 2
MT 13
The men's team also has several individual Grand Slam national titles including two in doubles and one in singles as well as a plethora of conference titles.

Women's Tennis NCAA Tournament Appearances
Memphis 1
MT 2

Golf
MT with six straight NCAA Tournament appearances. One of the top programs in the southeast including a couple of Top 25 rankings. Finished 13th in the nation a few years ago. We also have a national championship in golf with about 20 conference championships.

Memphis
Eight appearances. Very competitive in recent years. We seem to be fairly comparable in golf, but our long-term history is stronger.

What about track while we're at it where we have had one of the legends of the game coaching our program to dozens of championships, top 25 finishes and more all Americans than you have on your football team.

But hey don't let the facts get in the way.

So when you realize we're beating you in the present day you go back in history, any leads you have in a sport is slipping and going away.

Those conference championships mean nothing in the sun belt sir.
A weak horrible conference. Being the leader of that isn't the best thing to brag about.. CUSA is nothing more now, you fit right in.

When you compete with the best ill rank you with the best.
but you dont, you never have.

And you never will, because the people who know the most about sports and schools are the ones who chose specific schools. And they obviously dont want mtsu.

All you are is a back up call for us, because we left.
Simple.

Memphis football alone has been to more bowls then MTSU in the last 12 years. Understood now silly?

I'm not sure this is the point you really wanted to make...

Maybe you don't realize this, but we have only been playing 1-A football for 13 years. In that time, we have played in 3 bowl games and have been bowl eligible in 2 other seasons but were left out of bowls (see: screwed out of bowls)... By my count, that's 5 bowl eligible seasons in the last 12 as well...

So, to make it more clear:

MT has been bowl eligible as many times in its first 13 1-A seasons as the mighty Tigers have in the last 40 years...

MT 2

Simple.

I started to post something similar to what ThreeIfByLightening did, but he beat me to the punch, you say you're beating us in "present day", but you only gave numbers for the 2012-2013 season. You can go back beyond last year, without going into ancient history.

Furthermore you've been dismissive of the Sun Belt, but again given nothing to support that claim. Just like when you actually did the research for how close we are you realized our programs are closer than you were giving us credit for, if you actually did a little research you'd learn the Sun Belt is a far better conference than you're giving it credit for. You're letting the Sun Belt's bad football and abhorrent men's basketball skew your perspective on the conference as a whole. The Sun Belt is actually a strong league in many Olympic sports, if you checked conference RPI over the last decade in baseball for instance, I suspect that you'd find CUSA averaged somewhere around sixth and the Sun Belt somewhere around eighth.

You're continually making these claims based on assumptions and perceptions. It may bring this false sense of security you've built up come crashing down, but I assure you that our athletic departments(outside of MBB) are far closer than you'd ever believe.

I lay with a Memphis grad every night, have been for the past 31 years. She thinks I'm special.

She's correct.

Not my favorite game but I do enjoy the back and forth with fellow Tennesseans. We produce some great people despite the rivalry between the Grand Divisions of our great state.

We do share a common loathing for the Vol$, at least :)

04-cheers to that one...

We are speaking about a program, lasting over years as a whole.
Not based on one year.

You'd be incorrect there. We were bowl eligible plenty of times over the last 40 years (15 to be exact), but were independent with no conference affiliation.

The simple fact is, between 1959 and 1994, that's 35 years, we would have been bowl-eligible 25 times by today's standards. That's 71.4% of the time. The next decade sucked, but this battleship is about to get turned around.

Wow! I'm really surprised by all the MTSU hate toward Memphis. Y'all remind me of my preschooler who pouted the other day when a girl told him "Auburn rules, and Alabama drools!" Like anything else in life, both schools have areas of strength and areas of weakness. As far as arrogant Memphis football fans, I have yet to meet one. As bad as football has been recently, I think most are just excited to see the program making progress. I will be rooting for MTSU in CUSA. Good luck to both schools this weekend.

It looks like we make the trek to catch the game as we have a travel ball game up that way earlier in the day. Do we need to purchase tickets beforehand or will we be able to get them at the gate? We have five boys and are fine with nosebleed... actually prefer it to protect young ears. Yeah, I'm an overprotective Mama Bear and realize games, especially night ones, aren't rated G in the stands. Thanks in advance.

ETA: After rereading this post, I should clarify that my y'all was meant to reference both Memphis and MTSU fans.

It would appear the top high school prospect in Memphis has outdone all of us in the hate department this morning. Even stranger, his HS coach is a former Tiger.

From the Commercial Appeal

LINK: Petera Wilson cites "family pressures" in decision

"White Station linebacker Petera Wilson, the city’s top-rated senior prospect, will announce his college choice Friday — and it won’t be the University of Memphis.

They’re out of consideration,” Wilson said Monday. “My family refuses to let me go. They said it’s not the place for me, football-wise.”

“These schools are similar, because they have coaches who know what they’re doing,” Wilson said.
“These are big-name programs. My family feels that they’re all on the rise.”

A physical linebacker who can drop back in coverage in certain situations, Wilson said he’s looking for a coaching staff that can show him sides to the game he may not know.

“What do you have to offer me, as far as what I don’t know about the game of football? Everyone at this level is a freak athlete,” Wilson said. “It’s a level playing field there. It’s about what you can teach me.”
