2-0 vs. AAC This Week!
Congratulations to MT and FAU! Middle hung on to edge out Memphis, and FAU proved the bottom part of C-USA is better then the bottom part of the AAC. Sorry FAU.

So we aren't including Tulane as an AAC team for these purposes?

Would you have if LA Tech won? I think you would have.

Maybe on the football side, but it is clearly a step up for basketball. It's really not even close.

But it won't be for long. uconn and cinci will take a hit due to the significant drop in cash they'll be taking to the budget.

Don't need a huge budget to be successful in basketball.

If you have quality facilities and a strong coaching staff you can be really successful no matter your conference.

One crappy conference beat another. Nothing to brag about for either conference. It's like the one armed kid knocking out the blind kid.

True - but that budget hit...it's going to be big and it's going to be taken out of everything but football in the hopes of gaining that coveted access bowl slot. You are correct it doesn't take as much money to be successful and a lesser conference can do well in basketball (it happens every year and there are a number of perennial top teams in conferences very few can name).

THAT SAID - while the basketball of the aac is indeed way up on C-USA, the basketball for cinci and uconn, the primary reasons aac is so far up on C-USA, is considerably worse....at least in terms of name recognition. Giving up louisville, syracuse, pitt, georgetown, villanova, st. johns and the rest of the C-7 in exchange for ecu, ucf, smu, houston and tulsa is going to translate into a giant hit in recruiting. Many of those guys (players) who were going to cinci and uconn will be choosing other "big east" schools now instead of the top of the aac schools.

Like I said - aac has a noticeably better basketball league than C-USA, but I believe that variance will shrink a good bit within the next several years.

I don't think UCONN will be a long term member of the AAC. Cincy on the other hand may have lost their seat at the big kid's table permanently.

They are stuck unless they can convince the ACC to let them join in all sports except football, and they move the football to Independent. I don't think that is likely.
