RE: Yahoo sports picks UTEP to win conference
In years past, I think expectations were too high on our underclassman. Now we have some experience. We lost incoming talent. We lost expected talent (Wilms). I don't know. I'm okay with finishing in the top four as long as we peak in March. It's all about the conference tourny this year in my opinion.

Wilms? We lost him too? I didn't know that.

I don't think UTEP will win the conference and I still think CUSA will only be a 1 team conference this year.

The tourney will be their only shot.

Wilma is on the bubble regarding a shoulder injury.

Had a feeling he wouldn't pan out. When I saw him my first thoughts was another Jonathan Bamba.

Hopefully, he overcomes that and ends up being a solid player.

There is no way he is another Bomba. Players get hurt. He might still play this year. If not, there is nothing wrong with having a 20 year old third year freshman next season.

Didn't he red shirt last season? Or was he not officially on the team? I forget. He hurt his shoulder.

I thought he was new to the team this year.

Matt Willms? He had qualification issues last year. I don't believe he even practiced with the team. I don't know how that affects his eligibility.

Willms was academicly ineligible and couldn't participate in team practices last year although he was enrolled. It counted against his eligibility so it's equivalent to a red shirt. He could request a medical white shirt if he only plays x number of games due to the shoulder. I believe he'd still have 4 years if he doesn't play more than 6 games and his request is granted. More likely he will muscle through the season and go under the knife immediately thereafter.
