"If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying."
LOL.....

Strange but true II That was TNT's Charles Barkley during postgame banter Tuesday saying he once offered high schooler Dirk Nowitzki money to attend Auburn, which happens to be Barkley's alma mater.

"Isn't that illegal?" asked straight man Kenny Smith. "Man, we're in the SEC," Barkley responded. "If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying."

Auburn On Probation
Is he trying to get Auburn put on probation or something? I am pretty sure the NCAA can categorize Charles Barkley as a booster. Even though this would have happened years ago, it was illegal then, it is illegal now, and the NCAA can still prosecute after the fact if they have sufficient evidence. Charles Barkley's words, spoken to an international audience on TNT, are very sufficient.

I'm pretty sure Charles was joking. But he did say in his autobiography I believe (the first one) that there was a lot of money being thrown around in the SEC. Like the great Jesse "The Body" Ventura once said "win if you can, lose if you must but always cheat!" Sounds like the SEC's motto.

There still is a lot of money floating around in the SEC. That's why Alabama recently got off probation. It happens all the time. Occasionally, they catch them.

And it's not just the SEC. Or hadn't you noticed all the talk about USC and Reggie Bush lately?

It's definitely not just the SEC, but they are clearlyyhe most notorious. I heard from somewhere that since 1990 everyone in the SEC, except for Vanderbilt, has been in trouble with the NCAA. I remember when Dave Odom first took the South Carolina job after leaving the ACC he was quoted in an article saying he couldn't believe how blatant and open the cheating was in the SEC. He basically said guys were walking around him bragging about how they were cheating and getting away with it.

Thats why Vandy has stuck at the bottom of the SEC. Vandy is the Harvard of the SEC and that is there role. I would seriously think something was wrong with college football if Vandy ever got caught for cheating. Vandy looks like a JV team compared to the rest of the SEC besides UK.LOL

Vandy is stuck near the bottom of the SEC because they don't recruit outside the south hardly at all. There aren't enough good football players in the south (or any one region of the country) for a school with high academic standards (Vandy, Northwestern, Duke, Stanford) to recruit well enough to win. As a Northwestern fan I can state this from our own experience. Northwestern has players from 23 states and w/o the talent NU recruits from MD,NJ,TX, FL & CA
there is no way in the world that NU earns a 14-10 Big 10 conference record the last 3 years and goes bowling 2 of the last 3 years. Vandy has to do a better job of recruiting states with decent public/private schools that also produce quality football talent like NJ, MD & CA.

In Memphis, we say it stands for Simultaneously Everybody Cheats. How well we know it. For years, several SEC schools have been coming into Memphis paying high school coaches for their players. One lineman, who went to Alabama was worth $150,000 to his coach. Kentucky was also caught red-handed. One reason UofM is doing better is that SEC schools are now afraid to resume the old bribing schemes due to closer scrutiny.

From what I've heard, it is starting back up in the Memphis high school scene. Even Fulmer is coming back here with money.

Vandy recruits outside of the South more than most SEC schools.

I was about to say the same thing, I know for a fact Vandy recruits outside the south. Vandy just doesn't pay for there players like the other SEZ schools. Kentucky cheats and they still stay at the bottom, so cheating helps some but others if still can't buy a win.
