I wish I could find it again.

Are you speaking of The Helmet Project?

It seems as though some are ashamed of the school's heritage. Everything was fine with the old Yosef until a bunch of uppity yankees became entrenched in ASU's administration and faculty back in the early 80's. They said the "hillbilly" logo with the corncob pipe and jug wasn't sophisticated enough for our university. Some even went as far as to ban playing of Bluegrass music at university functions. Some of us old farts began saying ASU was trying to become the Harvard of the Hills. ASU was founded by mountain folk and their fierce independence and ability to eek out living in such a hostile and isolated environment is what makes being the Mountaineers so special. Like the folks in Louisiana who embrace their Cajun heritage I am proud to be a Mountaineer. This garbage of dressing him up like a city slicker, as they did with the logo being retired, is just plain idiocy and I, for one, am glad the people in Boone have come to their senses. Interesting how it was the alumni and students who shoved them back in that direction. Now if we can just get the PTB to drop using the yeller and switch back to real gold, the journey will be complete.

Oh by the way Mr Moehler, the helmets App wore during the Brakefield era were some of the best looking in college football.
Epic Applause
Amen. Glad to see Floating Head Yosef gone. We should be proud Of our heritage, and the new, old logo states just that. We also need someone to put a long rifle in one of Touchdown Yosef's hands and a shine jug at his feet.

From the day it was unveiled I have referred to that statue as the mad farmer. He looks nothing like Yosef, but like a farmer shooing crows out of his corn field. If we ever were to make a change away from the vintage Yosef, which I hope we never do, I'd be more inclined to go with the statute depicting Daniel Boone sitting around the campfire with his dogs. Leave the Davy Crockett look with the coonskin hat and buckskins with all the fringes to West Virginia.
The Mad Farmer is a good name. It's not a coincidence that the more we've been true to our roots, the more attached the school has become to the region to the west of I-77. If we hope to repliate what ECU has done in the flat lands, we will have to be sure not to turn our backs on our heritage.

Exactly!

The "Snow Capped A" created by head coach Mike "ASU Football Ain't" Working. Cool design than never had a shot after he was fired. Last of the Vegas Gold helmets. Mack Brown came in 1982 and changed them to black and they've been that way ever since.

I've always been a huge fan of the "Block A" and it's instantly recognizable to most fans IMO.

RE: "New" App State logo
The Yosef Head was introduced in 1999 along with this new updated Yosef mascot.

It lasted one game. Granted, it was the 1999 Auburn game which we almost won, but still it was a joke and they went to the cartoon with a stuffed belly and grey beard.

In I believe 2008, they sent him to the gym and gave him a beard coloring kit.

What they really should do is have a Mrs Yosef and then a real-life mascot, like a Daniel Boone, who wears an open flannel shirt or at least something showing off the upper body kind of like ECU's human pirate. He can fire the rifle, carry around a moonshine jug and take pictures with drunk coeds feeling him up.

I don't understand why exactly you chose to come in to this topic to talk smack, just trying to troll?

Looks like a Mortons seafood logo. Good move to retire that.

I wish we'd get rid of the swirling Eagle in a blender logo and go with something a bit less derivative of Boston College.

Agreed. You have beat someone (anyone) before you should talk smack.

I don't understand the tradition of this logo but I actually liked the other one. This one makes me think of the Simpsons. Again, I'm not familiar with the tradition...many people may see Beautiful Eagle Creek as a drainage ditch so to each their own.

Because logos interest me. This move is clearly a regression.

While to some extent I agree there are strong arguments for and against doing it, keep it off the uni and I'm pretty happy

Hate to agree but always believed they took Mammy Yokums' pipe and her husband Pappy Yokum direct from the Li'l Abner cartoon series and movies.
Al Capp cartoon series ran from 1934 until 1977, based in Dogpatch, Arkansas.

I've always calledl it the flying skunk logo.

It started out in 1997 as our primary logo, and was quickly relegated to second tier status as the University fortunately embraced the secondary logo.

The logo we have now is one I'm growing on, but at least they've really moved away from the earlier primary logo.
