RE: WITHERS OC FOR OHIO STATE IS JMU NEW COACH
How many commenting on this guy even know who he is? How can you judge the guy without even know him?
I don't have an opinion on him, I don't know who he is. I do know tOSU defense has been torched of late.
But, simply saying he's a great hire or a bad hire based on his previous coaching position (as an assistant) doesn't make any sense to me.

Coach Withers is awesome. I talked to him at a couple UNC Football camps coming out of HS. Really made my mom and I feel at home even though I had no chance of playing at UNC haha.
OSU is currently paying Coach Withers $585,000 with $217,000 in potential bonuses. That's a lot of mula and I really have no idea what anyone would do with that much money in Harrisonburg, Virginia. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/s...assistant/

This is funny.
First of all the only source is footballscoop.com
Didn't they also virtually guarantee that Saban to Texas was a done deal?
In any event, if it does happen, it doesn't mean success or failure.
However, there are tantalizing clues beyond the fact that he has curiously never been offered a HC position before.
Then there will be the questions about his association with Butch Davis and whether he can run a clean program.
Take a look at this.

In 2000, the Titans had the NFL's #1 defense yardage wise & #2 in points. In 2001, they dropped to #25 in both categories. Throughout his six years in Tennessee, their defense was in the bottom half of the league four of those years and their highest ranking was #10 (yards), #11 (points).
The year after he leaves, Tennessee's defense finished #5 (yards) / #8 (points). In 2008 they were #7 (yards) / #2 (points).
The defensive coordinator from 2001 to 2008 was Jim Schwartz, now head coach of the Lions. He took over the job from Gregg Williams, who had left to become head coach of the Bills.
So...
This kind or reminds me of the Curry hire at Ga St if it indeed comes to fruition.

Agree. did this thread's title really need to be in ALL CAPS?
We've never lost to them (when we were on the same level) and now the chances are even more remote since we must pay them cashdollars in a "guarantee game" to come to Norfolk.
Face it. it was a tantalizing rivalry that was fleeting at best.

The JMU boards are very entertaining. Half of their posters are totally schizophrenic. One minute they are all pumped and celebrating their new coach and the next minute they are ready to slit their wrists because no formal announcement has been made. Very funny to see this unfold.

Half? I think you're being kind. Are you and closet Dukes fan N2? Our board is so wired up that we have regular visitors from several athletic conferences.
I'll admit, lately it has not always easy to hold down dinner watching the Dukes perform on the court or on the field but what choice do we have, we love the place and we come back for more.

I guess you can say I'm a fan of the "Drama". It's like getting hooked on a good soap opera.
You should take that as a compliment though. There are too many message boards out there that are totally boring because the students and alumni don't give a crap about their athletics.
We give each other crap on the boards, but both ODU and JMU are passionate about our sports.

If it's worthy of your board or not, it's signed, it's done. Coach Withers is a JMU Duke.

Purplehazed, "worthy of your board or not" NOT
It is not worthy for the following reasons. Everyone else told him "thanks but no thanks". Ohio State, was ready to fire him.
NO FBS School wanted him!
Florida Atlantic said .........No way
Ark State said .............. No way
When he found out he would be fired his agent started pedaling him around. It appears he only had one choice, take a 1/4 of a million pay cut and go to an fcs school. You are either moving up or down, obviously he saw the hand writing on the wall, he had to bend over to see it. Only someone desperate would take a massive pay cut like that.
Be gone....
good luck
