I agree w/the poster that said he is doubtful that this is a kid to take UC to another level.
Great we signed a kid with potential, however he seems like a bit player on the college level. A spark off the bench. He'll be a HUGE defensive liability and D is half the game.

I think it's too early to say whether or not he can perform at this level but I don't think height will necessarily be a factor. Ge'Lawn Guyn is 6'2" 185 lbs, which should be above average size for a point guard, but he can't really play the position worth a lick aside from on the defensive end.
Plus Ryan Boatright was listed at like 5'10" coming out of high school but I think is somewhere around 6'0-6'2" now. So maybe Jenifer is a late bloomer.

RE: 2015 Basketball recruiting
While a point under 6ft tall may clash with our identity as a tall lengthy athletic team, this isn't the NBA. We've been bounced two years in a row by teams with scorers. It can't be all athleticism. I'd like him to bulk up a bit, but his game seems fine to me.

Marquez Letcher-Ellis is a 6'7" small forward who has been gaining a lot of interest and is a player to watch for this summer. He was crystal balled to UC yesterday

And Shabazz Napier was just measured at 5'11" in the NBA Pre-draft.
Seems to me he turned out OK.

Great point; that small UCONN backcourt was incredible in the NCAA and was more than a match for each opponent's guards--small or tall, even taking down Calipari's NBA developmental squad.

Come on people for years we have gotten athletes who cant shoot and have a low basketball IQ,now we sign a kid who looks like a true point guard who knows how to play the game and we are complaining about if he is 5'9 or 6'2 who cares, this kid looks like a player who knows how to play the game to me and thats what i been screaming about for years next sign another guy who is lights out from 3pt range dont care if he is 5'5 or 7'5

RE: 2015 Basketball recruiting
So because of similar heights we can expect a Downey, Boatright, Napier type career?
I dont give a damn about his height, if he looked anywhere near as quick or as good of a shooter as those guys I'd be thrilled.
My earlier point had nothing to do with height, maybe he does have great basketball IQ, but as usual with UC recruits a proficiency comes with several apparent deficiencies. I'm just starting to wonder when if ever Mick will start landing guys that aren't in that situation.

Yeah. When in the hell is Mick going to land some 17 year olds with zero holes in their games. Damn slacker I say...

...I don't think his speed is deficient. He's not slow, just because he's not Ryan Boatright fast. Every point is not lightning in a bottle, that's just ignorant.
As for his shooting, what are his percentages? An unorthodox shot is really only a deficiency when it misses.
I don't think with his handle, moves, vision and passing; he's going to be easy to guard.
The concern I would have is on defense. I'm willing to bet his creativity with the ball though, wins games and for the first time in awhile, offers someone on fast breaks who knows what they're doing.

RE: 2015 Basketball recruiting
I seem to remember a slow short fat kid from Cleveland signing with us a few years back who never was a burner, never looked ripped and never was gonna approach 6 feet, but he had great handles, and could change speeds well, turned himself into an awesome scorer and he turned out one of the greatest bearcats of all time. Not saying this kid will be Steve Logan at all. But it's proof you don't judge a kid on looks or size or flash. He's a TRUE PG with double digit assists and a decent scorer as well. We needed a solid, true PG and we got just that. Not some combo kid or a PG who can't hit water in the ocean. Is he a McD all American??? No, but he's a very solidly ranked true PG.

I'm not real sure of the problem here. Y' know we will still have a "lousy" PG named Troy Caupain for the next 3 years (Jenifer's first 2 years) along with Kevin Johnson. Is there really a problem here?

It's been awhile since I've seen a kid dribble the ball like Jenifer. Maybe never. I'm not saying he is lightening quick or a great shooter but the kid can move it down the floor and throw it to open guys. Can't wait to see him in action. Expect him to make some jaw-dropping plays off the dribble.

Just curious, what was SK's deficiency?
Seriously, you made a fairly baseless opinion statement. Unless you've coached high major basketball or recruited for that, what is your expertise?
Five star guys sometimes underwhelm. 3 star guys become NBA players.
All I know is mick and his staff targeted this guy and early and it's not a last minute stop gap grab. I'm not trying to compare him to anyone. He is fairly highly regarded by multiple recruiting experts/professionals. He plays at a high amateur level. He has been the top player in a major metro area.
But hey beercat if he by chance doesn't work out you can always pull this thread from the archives and celebrate being right.
In the meantime, I for one look forward to seeing him as a bearcat.

Sk still has deficiencies. He has very shaky handles. Last year to this year he made a tremendous jump in his ability to play with the ball in his hands, but I still think that will hurt his draft stock, and I still dont believe he will be drafted. He also has a very hard time of creating his own shots, just last year he had a tendency to take a lot of bad 3s, which could have been caused by not having any inside players, but He still has a lot to work on.

Some just love a pissing match. I'm on a message board giving my opinion. I think some of you would do much better with a blog than on a message board. I will absolutely be rooting for the kid, I am a uc fan but I am also objective. The kids video just doesn't do much for me. I don't really give a rats ass if that's ok with you or not.
