Exactly what conference, outside BCS and Ivy, are stable?

Who cares, JMU is gone in three weeks, possibly UD a few weeks later, and some think W&M w/in a year if those two things happen first. Recipe for disaster indeed. Mixed conferences are completely unsustainable and Yeager seems to be the only one hanging onto the idea it will work.

I think the ultimate nightmare scenario would go like this:

1) MAC lands UMass and Missouri State as full members
2) Northeastern replaces UMass in A-10
3) JMU finally accepts standing invite from Sun Belt
4) William & Mary heads to Patriot League
5) America East wants to sponsor football, nabs Delaware and Towson

That leaves the CAA with the following:

College of Charleston
Drexel
Elon
Hofstra
UNC-Wilmington

Disbanding would be a real possibility, with Elon and Charleston returning to the SoCon, Dexel and Hofstra joining the NEC, and UNCW becoming the 12th member of the Big South.

1) The CAA is more likely to pick up URI for all sports from the A10 once UMass leaves than lose Northeastern. The A10 is not going to be interested in a school averaging 1,200 per game.
2) JMU is gone, no one pretends otherwise. It will have a far lower impact than losing VCU or ODU. Elon I guess is the replacement - good athletics, popular school and better academic ranking than JMU.
3) W&M is not going to the Patriot. Nice league, doesn't fit.
4) Delaware and Towson are not going to the AE. If you haven't been paying attention, the tracks move the other direction - one more AE school may be coming into the CAA, Albany for all sports.

Not sure where some of you come up with these "nightmare" scenarios. There are still other schools who would grab a CAA invite if offered. There's a pecking order and the AE, Southern and Big South all fall below the CAA. If one school leaves, there's another to take its place.

The CAA fits a void, a mid Atlantic conference with decent football and basketball. It's not going away, like all the other conferences, there will be some movement but there is a solid base with Delaware and W&M.

JMU isn't going anywhere. I don't know why people keep thinking that. All potential trains have left the station.

Technically the SBC is still an option, but not one the Dukes seem willing to take.
