No mention of his salary or compensation package. I hope WF didn't give him upwards of $3 mil.

It's not a top profile hire, but it isn't bad either, and isn't exactly low profile either. He's had success and is well regarded. Danny Manning has a big name in basketball circles and it will draw attention. Hopefully Wake will be able to capitalize on it.

This feels like a risky hire to me. He has only been a head coach for two years. It may work out for them and I hope it does. However, this feels pretty damn iffy to me. I think they could have done better.

When you are one of the small fish in a very big pond, every hire is risky. I don't see this as any riskier than Va Tech's or BC's choices.

Gotta disagree with Virginia Tech...IMO they hit a home run

Wake's Scout site has posters saying upwards of $2 million.

^This^

Overall I think it is a pretty good hire...Wake can recruit nationally and Manning has a big name.

For Tech's sake, I hope you're right. And given their past history, he probably exceeds expectations. But exceeding expectations before the fact doesn't equal success after it.

RE: Wake Forest's Search for a New Basketball Coach
Though I still think it's a risky hire by Wake Forest, I must say that Manning has a better resume right now than Jamie Dixon did when we hired him and that hire worked out VERY well for Pitt.

It just seemed like they were shooting for the stars and ended up taking a larger chance than I had expected them to take, that's all.

Let's hope it works out for the Deacs.

Totally agree. On face value Wake's hire is alright and BC's is hmmm. But VT's is impressive.

You'll love VT's new coach...lots of good comedic value there. When your coach is a stunt double for Curly of the Three Stooges you have something to work with.

VT got a HUGE win in Buzz.
