ODU vs Hampton ? Now that's a matchup the whole country will be talking about.
Yep. ranks right up there with NTSU - Nicholls State and Marsahll - Miami (Ohio). And by the way, if Hampton played Miami, I would put my money on Hampton.
Marshall vs Miami (Ohio) well above, well above.
I really cannot agree with you. Yes, Miami is in the MAC, but Miami was 0-12 last year, including a loss to UMass which was in its second year of FBS football after leaving the FCS CAA, and by the way, UMass was 1-11 in 2012 with its only win against Miami. Last year Marshall beat Miami 52-14.
Miami is not a good football team, and Marshall playing Miami this year is in fact very comparable to UNT playing Nicholls State and ODU playing Hampton.
If you don't see what I am saying, we will just have to agree to disagree.

The family and I are going to that game. Looking forward to it.
Miami, even with a couple of transfers, doesn't have anywhere near the talent that Ohio did or still does.

You had better hope the whole 1-aa community is not talking about the game. That means they got the win.

I'd take the loss at Miami if you guys could win all those other games. Our season would blow, but the conference would make some serious waves if that occurred.

With fan apathy like that, it's no wonder why you can't even get close to selling out that shiny stadium of yours.

I doubt seriously if any of you conference brothers, with possibly the exception of Charlotte, get very excited about playing a FCS team. Life's a ***** ain't it ?

Ya really think so?
And yet the Hampton vs. ODU game will sell out and be front page of the sports section up here the next day. The sad part is, in this region, it probably carries more interest than a game against UNT will. No disrespect to UNT intended, just a point about the lack of geographic proximity and familiarity and its potential to affect fan intrigue.

By the way, ladies, as bad as we have been the last two years, we are still in the conference and play Mississippi State on the opening day.

When you're a new program(and recently moved out of FCS) every game has a bit more intrigue. He didn't say people won't be attending, he didn't say no one cares, he just said no one will be saying much about the Nichols game and the same can be said for MT vs SSU and pretty much any other program that's been FBS for more than a blink of an eye playing any FCS program.
Talk to me in thirty years when ODU is opening against Coastal Carolina or Delaware St and tell me how much "fan apathy" there is in your fanbase...

Have to agree with ODU fans here... FCS teams are fine for fan interest if they are local. ECU - NCCU should be very well attended and will hold a lot of excitement (regardless of how other ECU fans may hold their noses up in the air).
Yeah, games against regional FCS teams like Norfolk State, Hampton, William and Mary and James Madison should all be very well attended in the foreseeable future.

We were technically 1-AA last year when we opened at East Carolina.
It was a 40k+ crowd and a fun game.
I assume when ODU schedules JMU for a similar game, that it will be much-anticipated and of regional interest, as well.

When you're playing a local FCS team it's a little different, but what's to talk about when you're a 3 or 4 touchdown favorite? The only FCS teams that would move the meter at all in Murfreesboro are Tennessee Tech and that's only because they were once our biggest rival Tennessee State a one time rival and just up the road. Even then scheduling former rivals can be problematic because they still want home games like the old days, but obviously no FBS team is going on the road against a FCS team.
I'd pretty much view any in state FCS opponent in much the same way Tennessee fans would view a game against us.

Well yes, obviously. It's gonna be like that. If MT were to play someone like La Tech versus someone like Tennessee State... different crowd and different news coverage.
