RE: Scheduling FCS Teams
The P5 schools all do it for the most part. Hell, Ole Miss play Presbyterian. Do they even grant scholarships? Most schools need 6 homes games to make some money. I like playing an FCS school at home much more than whoring out to a big time school for a big paycheck so they can have 6-7 home games.

It sure lowers schedule strength for schools and also the conference.

I despise playing 1-AA teams / FCS. I also hate apologists that say "well everyone else does it"... "It counts as a win"... Blah blah blah... There are 126 or whatever it is now 1-A teams. There is ZERO reason teams should be playing lower division schools. If it's a just that 1-A play 1-AA then set aside a week at either the end of the year or beginning where every single team plays a 1-AA. A garunteed home game where every school plays at home that week. Conferences like the SEC have used playing a 1-AA to their scheduling advantage. Notice the SEC playing 1-AAs every year very late in the season. When other conferences are deep In their conf schedule and losing potential games the SEC plays 1AAs and gets a week or 2 break and a garunteed jump in the polls.

Middle Tennessee plays Savannah State this fall. They can't be far from Rhode Island-quality.

take no one for granted... semo, fau, mcneese...

Over the past four seasons Savannah State is 4-41, of their four games against FBS competition the closest one was a 55-0 loss to Florida State, last year they lost to a 6-6 Troy team 66-3, they lost to Georgia State in 2010(State's inaugural season) 55-21, their four wins in that time came against Edward Waters(NAIA), Fort Valley(DII) and two wins against North Carolina Central(in NCCU's last year of DII and first year of FCS).

This game will be over before half time.

WOW! Sounds like the Bad News Bears of college football.

And the win against Fort Valley was a MAJOR upset that nobody saw coming.

I think UTSA is done with FCS schools in football, at least for the foreseeable future.

We played a light schedule in year one when our team was all freshmen, and played a mostly FBS schedule in year two when our team was basically all sophomores.

Last year, our schedule was all FBS, this year our schedule is all FBS, and will be again in 2015. We have no plans for playing FCS schools in any other years after 2015 either, as aside from one or two games here and there, our OOC schedule is pretty much already filled through 2019.

RE: Scheduling FCS Teams
As mentioned above, UAB has two SWAC (i.e., HBCU) schools less than an hour away. They bring more people than Troy (ok, not saying much) and more than USM in their recent down years. I could find room to complain if we were scheduling Southern, Alcorn, or The Citadel, but we're maximizing our benefit under the rules...can't complain about that.

Oh, I was referring to Alabama A&M and Alabama State. One is Huntsville, AL and the other Montgomery (can never remember which).

Alabama A&M is in Huntsville(Normal) and Al State is in Montgomery. IIRC, they both play, or use to, their annual game in Legion field.

Maybe not.
NDSU has a new HC, 7 new assistants, and lost 24 seniors from last years FCS championship team.

I have no problem playing in state FCS teams who bring enough fans to fill the Rock. Not really concerned with SOS. Its not like a CUSA team is going tomake it into a 4 team play off.

I don't have a problem with it if it's a season opener since no true scrimmages or exhibitions can be held and you might be breaking in a new QB or key personnel

If it's mid to late year...not a big fan.

Yep. Our OOC could be Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Stanford. Win them all (yes, that would NEVER happen), still wouldn't get in that playoff.

Southern and Jackson State would also bring HUGE crowds to Birmingham. I was hoping that we would schedule UAB again but we dont play many FBS games.

FIU scheduled two FCS teams this season. Doesn't only one count towards their overall record?

Yes.

Wait...what they put in their media guide and the papers? No, both count. But for bowl eligibility if it came down to that? Yes, only one.

Not exactly, their record will be what it is, but only one of them can count towards bowl eligibility. They'll need to go 7-5(assuming they beat both FCS teams) to be bowl eligible, but this probably isn't a concern to them...
