Are the Shreveport and Biloxi casinos participating in the financial bids for Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss? That might be tough to beat for a City without a casino.

Well at Birmingham you have several fan bases that all average respectable numbers within driving distance.

At UTEP, you have UTEP fans and that's it.

500 from Charlotte, 500 from MT, 500 from WKU, and a few hundred from LT and USM wouldn't be bad and would probably be likely. Not to mention the several thousand UAB fans that would be around for the games.

If any of those schools made the finals, they'd send several thousand down. Charlotte sent about 3,000 down to B'ham for the College Cup championship a few years back. If we can do that for soccer, we can do it for men's basketball.

One of the Biloxi casinos is opening a event center that will be perfect for the first 2 rounds of the women's. I look for us to get it 2 or 3 years from now.

The UAB campus area is, I think the other facility is near the airport.
But with that said, even the legion field area has been cleaned up in recent years.

safer than Juarez/El Paso 05-stirthepot

Seriously though, You'll be fine there. The renovation projects that have come about in the last 5 years have completely transformed the city. If you want to stay in Suburbia and commute to the arenas then stay in like Hoover or Mountain Brook.

No CUSA metro is safer than El Paso.

That being said, congrats to UAB. We need to see if a centralized location works. I like UAB a lot so I hope it does. I look forward to El Paso, San Antonio, and Charlotte hosting in the future.

The BJCC is in the heart of the North side of the city. Basically mirrored to the heart of UAB/Hospitals.

The airport is about a mile east of Birmingham. They aren't far apart but you would have to drive to get between the two, where as I've personally walked from UAB to the BJCC for the fun of it.

I have a feeling that's what most will do. From a outsiders view, the better selection of eateries plus the mall is in the Hoover area or the area near Samford. And its not a bad drive through midtown to either arena.
Im just ready to lose some golf balls on the Ridge course.

Very happy about the B'ham selection.

Barring an awful season that makes me write off Charlotte basketball forever, I'll be there.

Safe enough for us, but remember I lived in Memphis and don't scare easily. We're nerdy history buffs and enjoyed the Sloss factory tour. Lots of good shopping too.
