UTSA was ranked as high as #22 this past season (http://www.ustfccca.org/assets/rankings/...op25.pdf), to my knowledge the first such ranking in program history. We've always had the talent, but it's hard to impress voters when your program is in the Southland. C-USA has given us more visibility.

We usually have at least one or two guys per season in the top 5 in their event. Our big name a few years ago was Teddy Williams, four-time All-American. Williams ran a 9.90 100 meter for us, I believe the fastest collegiate time that year.

Semi-OT: As UTSA fans know, Teddy is currently playing in the NFL as a cornerback & gunner for Arizona. Teddy's career average is 51 yards per reception, because he only has one and it was for 51 yards. Lol. He's our first Roadrunner ever in the NFL and you better believe we are damned proud.

The good thing about track is if you score enough points in the NCAA meet you can earn a top 25 ranking. That's how we did it all those years.

But you've got to have enough athletes qualify for the NCAA's and then they have do well when they get there. The more athletes that place in the top eight the more your points accumulate and then they really accumulate in individual sports if they win an individual national title or place in the top three or four.

That's one hell of a fast time. We had a kid win a national title in the 100 about 10 years ago with a time in the low 10's. That's rediculously fast. Close to the national collegiate record I would think.

You guys clearly have an outstanding program, so good luck!

UAB's Eli Kirk is currently ranked #1 in the nation in the 10k, but did not compete in the race this weekend. Instead, she demolished the field in the 1,500 and 5k (races run only 2hr apart) and broke the UAB and C-USA records in both.

Congrats to Eli and Go Blazers!

I don't believe we've yet seen the best of what's to come for our track program as we're now recruiting athletes for C-USA and have the new facilities in place.

+1

Just to clarify. We did not win the WAC outdoor championship last year as the majority of the top track and field athletes were redshirted. However, the team did win the WAC indoor championship
