The only way I could see BYU joining is if it a Notre Dame type deal. BYU plays 5 football games vs the AAC and joins for Olympic sports. They would be a 13th member, but only for Olympic sports.
BYU's current conference, the WCC, makes much more sense for them, for multiple reasons, than an Olympic sports arrangement with the AAC. Further, though BYU has a solid basketball program, they wouldn't make AAC men's hoops stronger overall than it already is, and BYU is two time zones away from the east coast, so it doesn't make sense for the AAC either.
Spot on. They affiliate with basically like minded schools in their region in the WCC. In football, there is already precedent for a new member to retain their existing television agreement for the life of that contract. It's called Navy.
Shoot I wouldn't be even mildly surprised to find out that ESPN is playing match-maker given BYU's reported issues scheduling. Win-win for ESPN. They can nudge BYU in, BYU doesn't share its TV deal, AAC doesn't share its TV deal with them, AAC gets four more attractive games on the conference TV slate and when the deals expire they do a consolidated deal.

I'm thinking UMass. BYU too far West to work. I think the ground is slightly rumbling and really Both are available. But BYU has it's sights set on P5 status if still possible.

UMass is going to end up in the AAC at some point. May as well be sooner rather than later.

After splitting NCAA credits, playoff money, and media money for 13 shares rather than 12, UMass would have to be worth at least 3 million dollars for thier addition to the AAC to make sense. If the networks thought UMass was worth 3 million the MAC would not have run them off.

I thought UMass told the MAC off...so I guess the truth is somewhere in between.

Any chance it might be Kansas, Baylor or TCU?

AAC adding a 13th member?

None whatsoever. It would be more likely the Big 12 expands at the American's expense. I feel that for the Big 12 to dissolve before 2025, everyone must have a soft landing - even TCU and Baylor. Kansas will literally have a choice between the SEC, Pac 12, Big 10, and maybe the ACC as well.

The MAC ran them off FB-only, UMass decided not to exercise the resulting option to join all-sports.
If UMass was worth $3m to have, all up, then the MAC would not have run them off FB-only.

For the Big 12 to dissolve---- we only need 8 votes. Just fort clarity, I was joking but please remember Kansas had no where to go when the Texoma 4 almost left for the PAC 12.

Quite funny. Maybe 1 day your school can join a big boy conference.
I seriously doubt it though. Schools with less than 30-35k in the stands are usually relegated to mid-major status.

RE: AAC adding a 13th member?
Like I posted on the AAC board:
I think BYU and Army together would be perfect.
Pros:
Both highly recognizable name brands
Both would probably substantially increase the TV deal
BYU adds a very legitimate FB program to the AAC and "strengthens" the west
Army adds an easier opponent to "soften" the east
Would really solidify the AAC as a true tweener conference in terms of $$ and fan interest (the exposure, bowls and competition are already there).
Doesn't get too big with 16 members
Cons:
Kind of morally wrong to cash out on the Army/Navy game
BYU difficult to work with
14 is supposed to be a tough # to schedule
Not sure of the feasibility of that...but it seems like a win/win to me.

Not true. KU only had "nowhere to go" if TAMU had accepted the Pac's offer. But the Pac was pretty sure in advance that wouldn't happen -- which is why the Pac presidents authorized Scott in advance to invite KU if everyone but TAMU accepted. KU has enough cachet to have options without having to desperately hold onto Bevo's tail.

Armys tv contract, excluding the navy game, is up after this year. Wonder if that means anything

Larry's plane never made it to Lawrence. Once the Texoma 4 decided to stay in the Big 12, Larry issued an invite to Utah. Kansas has enough "cachet" that they had to bribe Texas and Oklahoma into staying in the Big 12 with Buffalo/Cornhusker exit money.
Unless the Big 10 calls, Kansas has no where to go. Same then and same now. For the record, without Bevo, I recall Texas "coattail" Tech completely destroying Aaron Rodgers and Cal in the Holiday Bowl.
