RE: ESPN: ACC distributes $20.8 Million per school for 2013-2014
"Ole Bagdad Bob" Buckaineer is truly a classic! Anyone curious to what he is up to at home on the BGN Big 12 Board??

Quote:The original story on the ACC is misleading--no doubt intentionally. The ACC doesn't want to lose more schools, and ESPN doesn't want to pay anyone more money.

When the Pac 12, Big Ten, SEC and BIG 12 announced their revenues, they announced "this IS the conference payout and this IS the per team distribution".

When the ACC finally announced, what did they say?

The conference distribution was announced

The per team distribution?

"Average of $20.8M to each in ACC"

What does "average" mean? Are they saying the ACC schools recieved payment based on their media contract average---or are they saying if you add up what every school in the ACC made for 2013-2014 it averages $20.8 million--meaning unequal revenue sharing ?

Either way, every ACC school did not recieve $20.8 million dollars--many must have recieved much less so that FSU and Clemson (and no doubt a couple of Carolina schools) could recieve much more.

That's especially interesting since they claim "All 14 full members are set to receive an average of $20.8 million, up $1.2 million from last year." First, there are only 13 "full members" of the ACC now. Louisville isn't a member of the league until July of this year--they certainly aren't getting a full share--or any part of $20.8 million for this past year--they won't recieve one penny from the ACC. Notre Dame isn't a full member and the article states they received a lower share--which no doubt accounts for other schools being able to recieve more (much like posters like to say BIG 12 schools get more because TCU and WVU are getting less for now).

So either the statement just isn't true--or the "average of $20.8 million" that the schools are "set to receive" is over the life of the contract--not last year alone. We will have to wait to check individual schools actual year end reports to know (and of course all don't report). No chance with an "average" though that each school got $20.8 million as ACC fans are trying to imply. At best, some got much less and a couple more and those getting less of a "full share" accounted for some getting more.

As far as the statement about "multimedia rights", it is also misleading. The rights ACC schools claim as "multimedia rights" involve far more than "multimedia rights". They include sponsorships and royalties among other things. When you look at what some get for things like broadcast rights---FSU for example made less than $400,000 for those rights in 2013 according to their own reporting. Sure --it isn't included in the conference distribution but it doesn't do much for the school financially as compared to a deal like Kansas or Oklahoma have in place for their tier three television rights.

"There are no American infidels in Baghdad".
"Never!" "My feelings - as usual - we will slaughter them all"
"We have destroyed 2 tanks, fighter planes, 2 helicopters and their shovels - We have driven them back."

It's a bit disingenuous for WVU fans here to question why some of their fellow WVU faithful deserve ridicule. The major source of the misinformation spread about the state of The ACC was a pair of WVU bloggers. One of which openly admitted fabricating rumors to get back at The ACC for not inviting WVU.

With that being said, pardon us while we have a laugh at the expense of the aforementioned pair.

and to mention "some" of us never got approval to post on that board to combat the misinformation and gloating we have seen for the last 3 years or more.

This was posted by "The Dude" aka Atomic Noodle 4 days after The ACC signed its Grant of Rights on 4/15/13 and 3 days before the signing was made public on 4/22/14.

This morning on WVU Big 12 board, 3 of the top 5 threads are about The ACC or ACC schools.

Simply amazing. I think it's generally accepted that the ACC is withholding that amount pending the resolution of the exit fee issue. I have talked to a lot of WVU fans and they are good rational folks. That said, the reluctance of most of the WVU fan base to discredit some of these nitwits reflects badly on the broader fan base, IMO. I think they bring some of this criticism on themselves.

Just my 2 cents.

For the most part it looks like they are discussing the same things on that board that people are discussing on this one.
How many of you folks ran over to that board as soon as you saw the ESPN ACC article?
I bet there are at least a dozen of you.
C'mon and admit it.
You folks love and I mean love talking about the Dude.
Sometimes obsession is a two way street.
