I've read a book about something like that, john. It's called "A Very Strange Trip" by Dave Wolverton (a WV born author). Although it was published under the name of L. Ron Hubbard, since he discovered the author and used his name to help him get his book published.

What about the collision or whatever it was that caused the asteroid belt creation?

Scientists have recently concluded that the asteroid belt is not from any planetary body. It's left over material from the formation of our solar system. There's not enough mass to create a planet in the asteroid belt.

Custer had more ego than balls. He was certain he'd be elected President after his military career was over. But he wasn't really crazy. Just extremely stupid, thinking that all you needed was to charge at your enemy until they gave up or were defeated. Blind luck kept that moron alive long enough for the Sioux to teach him differently - if he learned that lesson before he died an ignominious death.
