Marquette wins 73-62. Marquette is for real. They just looked fresher and faster and sharper than Duke.

Congrats to the Golden Eagles! That was very nice on what was a bad night for the 16 team league.

Yep. I was worried about Marquette when they had a couple of squeakers in their first 2 outings, but they really impressed with this win.

Bad night for the BE overall with Rutgers losing to Jackson State and Cincinnati losing to Wofford. Those type of losses just shouldn't happen - although Wofford is probably a Top 200 RPI type team.

Still, we've all come to expect better from Cincinnati bb, even in what might be a 'down' year for them.

Cheers,
Neil

This should illustrate the makeup of UC's team. I logged on to 700 WLW's online broadcast feed of the UC game with 3 or 4 minutes left. When it happened to sign me in UC had just gained possession (I found out later). However, I listened to the announcers calling out passes from player to player for a good 30 seconds and then finally call out a made shot. I however didn't know it was UC that had scored until the crowd roared.

I very much follow BE teams and know player names. Yet I couldn't even tell UC had the ball after a 30 second possession. Obviously I didn't remember the names of their new players yet!

Here was the scoring breakdown of UC's 90 points tonight:
-55 points by Junior College transfers (4 guys)
-33 points by Freshman (1 player, sounds like a nice guard)
-2 points by returning players (F Cedric McGowan, he had fouled out before I started listening)

Only 3 returning players saw action. They played 5, 7, and 18 minutes respectively.

That's happened to me as well, but I'm getting better! Its kinda what happens when the administration decides to halt recruiting for a year.

Duke lost. What do you expect from a team that plays in "The" football conference. lmfao lmfao lmfao lmfao lmfao

ACC = The Anti Christ Conference

Who knows? Maybe they can get five teams in the NCAA tourney this year. lmfao lmfao lmfao lmfao lmfao

Cronin told a bunch of members of BearcatInsider.com a few months back that he is really targetting 2008 as the year UC gets back to normal recruiting (2007 is already picked over). Honestly, I'm not sure that they can do it by 2008 either. I am extremely concerned about this year, unless UC learns to play defense ASAP then I think this season will be very long.

You might want to know that Wofford shot 30 free throws to UC's 8 and that Mick got a technical for saying the fouls were 6-1 and did not use profanity! which cost some points. Also had five palming the ball calls in the game....this crew was one of the worst ever at the Shoe. UC made 17 threes but just did not play interior defense due to the three 6'10 players missing. Cedric Only played 18 minutes with foul problems and later fouled out. Play that game 30 times and UC wins 29 it was just good shooting Wofford team taking advanatage of a strange set of circumstances. Vaughn the star UC frosh in the Logan mold went for over 30!

Anytime Duke loses its always a great day for College basketball. Listening to Duke Vitale make excuses for them on why they were getting beat was hilarious. Great early season victory for the golden Eagles. They remind me alot of the Nova team from last year. If James stays another year Marquette will probably be a top 5 team next year. All they need is a dependable big man. As of right now they are definitly one of the most impressive teams thus far.

I love how he called all the DUIke players " winners " after the game.

Ah no DUIke V, check the scoreboard, they were losers tonight. This isnt pee wee where you prop kids up to make sure they stay interested. Come on already. What a tool he is.

the freshman you are referring to is Deonta Vaughn...IU heavily recruited him and he chose UC...he's going to be a good one. He looks like Logan..same frame and has similar game. We are very excited...now if Mick can just have a couple of years to put players around him we are back to normal!

If he's anything close to Logan then he will be a stud. I just wonder how long Cronin will continue to recruit JUCO's. Its hard to forget some of the JUCO's he brought to UofL that basically left holes in our classes. I know UC has had some success with JUCO's but I think you get better signing freshman because atleast those guys will stick around for a while. I wouldn't be to concerned about early losses at this point.

Most of college basketball this year is dominated by freshman and sophmore classes. This is why most of the top 10 is losing to teams they probably wouldn't lose to in January and Feb. Thats why I hate the fact that they come out with polls so early. They should wait until January to rank teams.
