Georgia Tech, Wake Forest or Maryland......
Pardon me while I go throw up. If the thought of our champion playing one of these teams doesn't make you want to hurl nothing will.
Maryland.....WVU has already beaten the Terps this season. I'm sure the BCS folks (and Eer fans) are just salivating thinking about a rematch of that one. Keep in mind that Maryland has 6 wins this season by 6 points or less. Can you say blow-out waiting to happen.
Wake Forest....What the Big East needs is wins over credible high profile programs. Friends this ain't one of them. The Demon Deacons presently have 9 wins for the first time since well....NEVER. Thats right WF had never had more than 8 wins in a season until this year. Talk about a win to hang your hat on.
Georgia Tech....Sadly this may well be the best team the ACC has to offer this season. That statement in itself should be enough to illustrate how pathetic ACC football has been this season. The Yellowjackets have beaten two teams with winning records this year. Since they didn't face anyone from our conference this season, lets take a look at how they stack up against common opponents....
GT beat Maryland 27-23 while WVU rolled past the Terps 45-28
GT beat Miami 30-23 as Louisville bested the 'Canes 31-7
GT beat North Carolina 7-0. Both Rutgers and USF beat the Tar Heels.
The bottomline is, if Georgia Tech is the best the ACC has to offer, lets hope the Big East rep ends up in the Rose, Fiesta or Sugar.

Not only that, Connecticut should have beaten Wake Forest earlier this year.

The ACC is having a bad year but it would certainly make me happy to pound there champion into submission. "If" we make it to a BCS bowl this year they can place whatever ACC team they want on the field. I just want Petrino to run up the score. Big East teams should love the chance to destroy any ACC team. I'm sure the old Big East teams would love a crack at V-tech, Miami, and BC. I think as a cardinal fan I would want to play BC more than any of them. They are the most overrated team known to man. I just get tired of hearing how the Big East suffered with the loss of BC. Like I said give me any ACC team.

See my scenario in this thread:
http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/bigeast/ph...hp?t=20604

It's a virtual lock that the BE bid will face the ACC champions in the Orange Bowl. It would take some serious upsets or a head scratcher in the BCS selection show to do otherwise.

And keep in mind, the transitive rule does not apply in college football. UNC, while still a very bad team, is nowhere near as awful as they were earlier (when Rutgers beat them by less than a TD 03-confused ). GT is capable, when Reggie Ball plays at his best, of beating anybody. I think they have showed that the last few years. They won @ Top 5 Miami ... vs Top 15 Auburn ... at Top 10 Auburn ... at Top 10 Virginia Tech ... etc. Only this year (thanks largely to a new offensive coordinator) they haven't melted down against inferior teams for the first time w/ Reggie Ball as QB. If it's GT in the Orange Bowl, you better take them seriously. If Reggie has a bad day, we'll get blown out. But if Reggie plays great, it could be the reverse of that. When Reggie played the best he has all year, we rang up the Hokies (in Blacksburg) for 21 points in 10 minutes. With our defense, that's nearly impossible to come back against.

I see your scenario as the least likely of the following three:

Here are what the likely scenarios are:

NC - Ohio State-USC
Rose - Michigan-ND (rematch of an earlier game OK with Rose)
Sugar- SEC Champ - Big East Champ
Orange - ACC Champ - SEC at-large
Fiesta - B12 Champ - Boise or West Virginia

NC - Ohio State-Michigan
Rose - USC-BE Champ (they won't want a USC-ND rematch so soon)
Sugar - SEC Champ - ND
Orange - ACC Champ - SEC at-large
Fiesta - B12 Champ - Boise or West Virginia

NC - Ohio State-Florida
Rose - USC-Michigan
Sugar - ND - BE Champ or SEC at large*
Orange - ACC Champ - SEC at large/BE Champ*
Fiesta - B12 Champ - Boise or West Virginia

*According to the selection rules, the Sugar would have to put the BE Champ #1 on their selection list of three first but then the BCS Cartel would have to determine if placing an SEC at-large team in the Sugar is preferable for local interest (LSU) leaving the Orange with the BE champ. But if the BE champ is Rutgers, the BCS Cartel will decide to put the BE Champ in the Sugar and the Orange will choose an SEC at-large.

The only thing that could change the above is if ND beats USC, Arkansas loses to LSU and then beats Florida and both Louisville and West Virginia win their last two.

In that case, Michigan becomes #2, ND rises to #3 and West Virginia rises to #4 which means West Virginia is an auto-selection and must be chosen over an SEC at-large team.

Cheers,
Neil

Look at the brinht side: It will be an Orange Bowl trophy to sit next to last year's Sugar Bowl trophy in the conference case. Hell there's a decent chance WVU could add another BCS bowl trophy this year if Louisville and WVU win out. The poor Big East will have won more BCS trophies in the last 2 years than the ACC has since the inception of the BCS. The ACC is 1-7. The NBE would be 3-0.

I'd put the chances of the talking heads' trashing the ACC at about zero, but as long as they no longer trash the BE, that'll be fine

No disrespect at all to Georgia Tech, but Louisville or West Virginia would pound the living crap out of Georgia Tech.

How good would you guys look in the eyes of the BCS if Maryland beat Wake and Georgia Tech and won the ACC championship and made it to a BCS bowl?
