Ideal Conference Draft
This has been done on another board so I thought that I would bring it here for us to enjoy. It helps bring a new perspective to conference realignment and what better way to have fun with conference realignment than to draft your own conference. For those of you new to this, here are the basics:

* You are the commissioner and you build your conference through a snake draft, like in fantasy football. Our number of participants will determine how many schools are picked for each conference. You select if you want divisions, pods or to go divisionless.

* Ideal conferences are judged in the same way that we judge real conferences: athletic prowess, academic profile, cultural fit, geographical fit, revenue ability, rivalries and other such factors.

* Selections are limited to current FBS schools or schools that have declared to join FBS, like Navy.

* We will break halfway through the draft for realignment period (to make trades). Both schools and remaining draft picks can be traded. When the draft concludes, final realignment (trades) will also take place. Like in fantasy football a trade can be blocked with a unanimous vote from the other commissioners if voting occurs within 24 hours of the trade.

Respond if you want to play! The only requirement is that you stay up with the board over the next week or two to make sure you make picks in a timely manner. We can run two or three drafts if we get enough interested people. Lets give everyone a few days to join & depending on the response we will get started early next week. What do you think?

Great, we have 6 so far. Lets see how many more we get & then decide how many teams we pick.

Ideal Conference Draft
What will make it more interesting is if when you make a pick, you write a little summary as to why you made the selection you did. Strengths, weaknesses, relative value, and an outlook as to how your pick fits in with the direction of the conference you're building. Plus, anything else you think is relevant. The more detailed, the better. Pictures and videos highlighting schools and programs attributes, all welcome.

I.e. If your first pick is Stanford and your 2nd pick is Florida (I know no one would do that -- at least, I hope no one would), be prepared to explain the details of how exactly that is going to work.

I like this idea...

RE: Ideal Conference Draft
so there are 8 of us committed, and it just so happens that 8 x 16 = 128 which is the exact amount of teams in the FBS.

I am open to having more participants and opening things up to FCS. Could be cool to draft Ivy's and Big Ten schools.

RE: Ideal Conference Draft
I think 8 or 10 conferences of 10 or 12 schools each would work well.

If we do 16 schools each, by the end, it will probably get boring as you will be drafting schools that add little to no value to your conference. Think of any fantasy draft you've done before. Round 15 comes around and you're thinking, "Alright, let's just get this over with already."

Re: Ideal Conference Draft
I like the 8x16 so lets call this one draft & if any one else wants to play we can do a second. You can wright any description you want about your pick but it's not mandatory. You may not want to reveal too much about your strategy. I'll draw for draft positions later & we can start drafting tomorrow.

RE: Ideal Conference Draft
Here is an idea. The first 64 teams selected make up the P5 and last 64 teams make up the G5. So each person manages a P5 and G5 league.

Frankly it will be stupid to have a league with Alabama or Texas with Old Dominion.
