Texas St Observations
Its pretty obvious now that TU will have a losing record. Even Knute Rockne or Bear Bryant couldn't repair this mess. Our best chance to win a game now is against a pathetic performing team - SMU. But I'm not for BB stepping down until the end of the season. However, he should announce it before the end of the year perhaps before we play ECU at home. Let the players play that game for the staff - it will be our only hope of playing wel by then.

1. Once again, we didn't look prepared. If BB thought we were, then that tells me he isn't being realistic, doesn't understand the reality of the situation or is being snowed by a team giving "fake" signals. There is no excuse for this. The lack of initial success shows me that there is a HC who is hoping the team is better rather than "making" the team perform.

2. QB play is the main problem with the offense. Its obvious to me that BB still has too much input with QB development. It seems that was why he hired JB. Josh is now a victim of that process. We need a QB who can throw the deep ball and who can be a run threat. Just throwing the intermediate passes isn't enough.

3. Play calling is still bad and I don't see it getting much better. We now have a lame duck coach who will probably double down and become more involved in the mistakes he created in the first place.

4. The defense played well except for the corners and secondary on passing plays and the option. But there always seems to be a breakdown at some point - broken record.

5. TSU defense was giving up huge yardage on the ground in previous games and it appears we had some success there. But was it our offense or their poor defensive line?

6. When you start a game behind like us, it just spins our of control. With two weeks to prepare, there is no excuse to have a bad gameplan and poor execution. TSU didn't do anything that should have surprised us. They just executed and made plays.

*Its now a forgone conclusion that we will have a new coach next year. So lets convince Steadman and the new AD to start the search behind the scenes right now. There'll be a lot of talk towards the end of the season on this subject. But with the big salary we are paying the MBB staff, I doubt we can hire the ones we want. A new up and comer who wants a proving ground for his talents, but who has some excellent connections in the coaching community. My favorite right now would be Mike Norvell who will recruit hard in Texas - who's wife is from Fort Smith Ark with family there and who runs a very entertaining and sucessful offense at a top 25 BCS level program.

IMO

RE: Texas St Observations
It mostly comes down to recruiting. TU doesn't have the talent to compete at the AAC, C-USA, or even the Sunbelt level right now. Already losing to teams from both the Sunbelt and C-USA. Tulsa will get smashed by the better teams from the AAC. Those 2 Star players BB has been recruiting look exactly like 2 star players or not even Div. I. This season will play out as it will, a mess. BB's last three years of recruiting have been wasted.

RE: Texas St Observations
Texas St has all Texas players......and they get the pick of players AFTER at least 4 or 5 other Texas schools and OU and OSU pick. When we started recruiting Okla more than Texas, our talent slipped, especially speed. I do have some good news......I watched about half of the SMU game and I can honestly say, Tulsa maybe slightly better than them.......so we have a chance of winning two games this year. SMU is probably the worst team in Div I......I believe they have scored two TD's in 3 or 4 games....unbelievable!!! Obviously I have given up on TU this year unless they make a coaching change......which will probably be the only good thing that happens in Tulsa this year!!!!!

RE: Texas St Observations
I have a different view on the Texas St. Game. Watching the game in person, I thought we had equal or better athletes. I think we were very much out-coached.

We had very poor play calling. We decided before the game that we could throw on them. We kept throwing & kept missing. Either Evans would make a bad throw or more often than not, we would drop catchable throws. Meanwhile, we were getting an easy 5 yds. on almost every rush, but we rarely tried a run in the first half.

You could see Texas St. adjusting their play calling all game long. TU failed to take advantage of wide open QB boot leg & RB flat pass opportunities. We eventually morphed our play calling into jr high type up the middle rushes, even when Texas St. brought in extra DTs.

In OT, Texas St. burned us by isolating 2 TU defenders (former walk-ons -#37 & #53) in one on one pass play mismatches. Great play calling matched with poorly designed defense.

BTW, great crowd (21,500) considering our FAU performance. Very sad ending, especially with entire sideline of players up wave towels & TU crowd on our feet yelling when Texas St. was on defense during OT periods. I agree BB has to go, but I hope we can pull off a couple more wins for the players.

A little about the atmosphere. I really like it. As I've said in the past, we need to schedule non-conference games like this instead of so many of these MAC teams. A TU victory to them means more than a Bowling Green, Toledo or Northern Illinois victory to us.

There was a nice growd and the section on the east side that normally is sparse, was well attended with a bunch of TSU fans who travelled including that very nice drill team and big band. We need more of these games with UTSA, NT, La La, etc. Games that we can attend in person and they can reciprocate.
