Upset predictions for 10/18
Although there are some great matchups today, since conference play is in full swing, I don't think we will see nearly as many upsets as we have seen in the last couple of weeks. Baylor, Marshall, Michigan State, Clemson, Nebraska and Georgia are ranked teams playing on the road, which is often when upsets occur, but I think most of those teams win. Baylor should be tested by the West Virginia offense, but I don't believe the Mountaineer defense is as good as TCU's, so that probably doesn't bode well for WVU. Marshall, Michigan State and Clemson should win big. Nebraska is vulnerable against Northwestern, though I still see the Cornhuskers winning. IMHO, Georgia is most ripe for an upset from this group. Arkansas has been playing well in defeat and Gurley is out again for Georgia.
In games featuring two ranked teams, none would be huge surprises if the underdog won, so I won't even consider them upsets, even if the point spread would. Rutgers may keep things closer than the 21-point spread Las Vegas set, but I think the Buckeyes win, and I believe Ole Miss will beat Tennessee, but may not cover the 16 1/2 point line.
My upset picks today:
Iowa over Maryland (best pick)
Wake Forest over Syracuse (weak pick, but Syracuse hasn't played well enough to be favored by five on the road)
Eastern Michigan over UMass (another weak pick, but UMass should never be favored over an FBS team, even another bad one)
