No, but she took it upon herself to be the public face of the initiative, thus us correctly the target of the public scorn and ridicule.

Did anyone else catch that menu for the day? haha. It's freaking PEARL HARBOR day. so what do they have on the menu? A bunch of "Oriental" this, "Teriyaki" that, Flied Lice, edamame and other. 03-lmfao

Talk about running with stereotypes, wonder what the serve for MLK day? 03-lmfao Brats and beer with pretzels for V-E day? Champagne and Surrender Cake for D-Day? haha.

Wonder why they didn't have Nuclear Wings on the menu as well?!?

It was the first thing I noticed, besides the only fruit being a banana on Michelle's menu. I was waiting to see if anyone else had noticed the blatant Asian cuisine on Pearl Harbor Day. Yeah, liberals aren't indoctrinating at all.

Man I was never hungry at school back in the 80's and 90's... The cost of my lunch went from $0.50 in 1984 (Kindergarten) to $1.00 the year I graduated. Portions were always big. F*ck Michelle and her stupid ass lunch menu. I've never seen a more selfish family in my life.

No, her initiative was for healthier kids. Something everyone would want if they shoved their idiotic political obsession up their asses. And these changes to this program have been in the works for years.

Tommy, Moochelle has taken it upon herself to do ads, Tweet, Instagram, and even go on TV to push this lunch program - so she obvioulsy agrees with it. She represents it and is pushing it hard. No doubt, if people liked the lunches, she'd be taking full credit, but because they blow donkey dick she gets to blame changes that were in the works for years which is code for "Blame Bush."

And prove the changes were in the works for years because that's the first time I've heard it.

She has appointed herself the public face of the school lunch initiative.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/05/27...00275.html

Quote:First lady Michelle Obama is striking back at House Republicans who are trying to weaken healthier school meal standards, saying any effort to roll back the guidelines is "unacceptable."

The rules set by Congress and the administration over the last several years require more fruits, vegetables and whole grains in the lunch line and set limits on sodium, sugar and fat. The first lady met Tuesday with school nutrition officials who said the guidelines are working in their schools.

The event was an unusual move for the first lady, who has largely stayed away from policy fights since she lobbied for congressional passage of a child nutrition law in 2010.

Quote:At the White House event, school nutrition directors from New York City to Los Angeles to a rural county in Georgia told the first lady success stories about implementing the standards and said they would be disappointed to see any roll backs.

"We're not just talking about food, we're talking about education," said David Binkle of the Los Angeles Unified School District. He said participation is up in his district, along with test scores and graduation rates, since they made school foods healthier there.

The first lady asked the group for advice about how they can better respond to schools that are struggling, and suggested that the conversation should be focused on helping those schools rather than rolling back some of the standards completely. She said the government and schools can also do more to work with students to get them interested in what they are eating.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/m...story.html

Quote:At a competing event this week, Michelle Obama gathered together other school nutrition officials with a different story. Advocates for the higher standards included school officials from New York, Los Angeles and Burke County, Ga., a rural district with a high proportion of students from low-income families.

They acknowledged that the mandatory fruit and vegetable portions produced complaints at first but said the initiative is now a success.

Quote:Obama, during her appearance this week, singled out the SNA’s role, noting that the group helped her and other advocates push for the standards in the first place.

“It is my understanding that this is the group that’s pushing to change the legislation,” she said. “If anyone can help me understand how we wound up here —”

http://www.politico.com/story/2014/07/mi...09113.html

Quote:First lady Michelle Obama used a White House lunch honoring the pint-size winners of a national recipe contest to send a clear message to Congress on Friday: Healthy school lunch reforms are here to stay.

The first lady called out the “grown-ups” in Congress, who she said are “trying to undo some of the progress we’ve made,” and delivered her sharpest remarks yet on the food industry.

“There’s a lot of money involved in feeding our kids at school,” Mrs. Obama said, surrounded by schoolchildren from all 50 states at the third annual “Kids’ State Dinner” in the East Room. “We are currently spending $10 billion a year on our school lunch program…so it’s not surprising that certain interests are resisting change and trying to take us back to the old way of doing business, because for them there’s a lot of money on the line.”

Kaplony, she's only defending the truth against a bunch of obstructionists posting misleading pictures.

This is her initiative: Let's Move

Quote:Let’s Move! is a comprehensive initiative, launched by the First Lady, dedicated to solving the problem of obesity within a generation, so that children born today will grow up healthier and able to pursue their dreams. Sure, this is an ambitious goal. But with your help, we can do it.

Combining comprehensive strategies with common sense, Let’s Move! is about putting children on the path to a healthy future during their earliest months and years. Giving parents helpful information and fostering environments that support healthy choices. Providing healthier foods in our schools. Ensuring that every family has access to healthy, affordable food. And, helping children become more physically active.

And yes, the food we serve in schools (lunches and vending machines) are a part of that. But so is exercise also, which her group rightly includes as necessary to the changes in nutrition. It still doesn't change the fact that the standards are written by nutritionists and the like. She has no final say in any of this.

According to the kids eating these meals, they can't even sustain the energy for exercise because of the tiny portions they're getting. It might be decent for a 5 year old, but not for an 18 year old. A lot of the getting lazy and fat is attributed, IMHO, to cheap junk food. To eat healthy means spending lots of money and to a lower class citizen, that's not affordable.

Dropping school lunch portions isn't the answer. If they want to do something to make people healthier, they need to swap the prices of junk and healthy food. That's most likely impossible, but it's the first step in the right direction.

No, Michelle Obama didn't put herself out front with these changes at all

http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-offi...-standards

Quote:“The idea here is simple—our classrooms should be healthy places where kids aren’t bombarded with ads for junk food,” said First Lady Michelle Obama. “Because when parents are working hard to teach their kids healthy habits at home, their work shouldn’t be undone by unhealthy messages at school.

This action comes after the White House Summit on Food Marketing to Children last fall where Mrs. Obama called on the country to ensure children’s health was not undermined by marketing of unhealthy food.

Again, if you are going to put yourself out front of the issue then you should expect to bear the brunt of the criticism.

This. I LOVE vegetables but when I have to pay $10 for bell peppers that's a problem. I rarely ever buy anything that would be considered "junk food" but my grocery bills are pretty high for a single adult. I eat lots of lean beef or chicken but some days my paycheck barely stretches that far. I could stock up on frozen pizzas for far less but then I'd be as big as a damn whale. It sucks.
