Experienced CNC Machinist III seeking employment
My son-in-law is looking for another position in Memphis in his field. He is a hard worker, good guy, stable, homeowner. His wife (my daughter) is also employed and they have my twin grandbabies.

He will make someone a good employee. References and resume upon request. Thanks, y'all! Please pm me for specifics.

Comp Cams, Smith and Nephew, Medtronic and the other local medical companies would be good places to inquire.

Thank you very much! I have passed these on to my son-in-law. I just got back from a Thanksgiving with family in Arkansas. Sorry not to thank you before now. 04-rock

RE: Experienced CNC Machinist III seeking employment
If your son still cannot find a job as a CNC machinist in the area, and he is willing to go around the country, there are probably temporary/contract jobs all over the country. I know most manufacturing companies are hurting for good engineers. So, I am guessing CNC machinists are in demand, too.

If he needs help with finding a temporary/contract job, then PM me, and I will give a few engineering contract office contact info, and maybe they can help him. As for as finding a job in Memphis, it is limited because right now, Memphis really does not have a lot of manufacturing companies. I tried finding a job in Memphis in engineering the last couple of decades, and I could not find one. CNC machinists might be an easier field to find a job. There are what they call job shops that need CNC machinists, and manual machinists. So, you might suggest job shops around Memphis, too. They are small shops, kind of like start up manufacturing companies.

Good luck with the search.

Medtronic doesn't really have any manufacturing in town any more, they just have a prototyping/customs machine shop. They sold their Memphis manufacturing to Sandvik, not sure if Sandvik is still in town. Most of Medtronic's spinal manufacturing is in Warsaw, IN and Humaco, PR.

Warsaw and Humaco only manufacture implants. Every implant needs an instrument, which are by and large manufactured at one of the dozens of local machine shops. Tons of opportunities in this area I'd imagine. Good luck.

A lot of opportunities in Huntsville if he's up for the move. Aerospace, defense / military, auto, and the electronics industry drive the demand for skilled machinist.

But they aren't jobs at Medtronic, Medtronic doesn't have any Manufacturing in town. Since it's all sourced, I'm just trying to let them know you won't find a CNC job in Memphis by looking for Medtronic jobs.

I worked as an engineer in the Warsaw, IN area, and there are instrument manufactured there from the Big Three. And, their suppliers, also, do instruments around Waraw. There are quite a few OEM suppliers around Warsaw. These suppliers do both implants and instruments.

That you all for your input. I have been slammed with work, so I am just now seeing all your helpful posts.

The update on my son-in-law is that he had two fairly quick job offers, and he has returned to work for Odyssey in Bartlett where he worked before they changed owners. He enjoyed working there before and it is close to his home, so all seems well right now. He is not able to leave Memphis anyway because of his twin babies and all family being here. My daughter would freak if he left her with 2 three-year-olds!

But THANKS A TON, you guys! MT.org has the best folks in the world on it.

Congrats!!! I am very happy he found something. It is nice, just before Christmas. I hope he gets to work the last couple of weeks in December. Most manufacturing companies I worked for usually take off the last couple of weeks.
