RE: Open Thread - 2014-15 Men's Basketball Season
First full weekend of conference play. So far:

Syracuse 68 - Virginia Tech 66
-The Orange nearly blew a 19 point halftime lead. About as unimpressive a win you can have considering Tech is beyond bad, coming off a 30 point loss to WVU, and Tech was without two guys who average and 6 and 10 points a game.

NC State 68 - Pitt 50
-The Wolfpack dominate a few days after rolled by Cincinnati. Pitt looks to be headed to the NIT this year.

Either GT plays to their level of competition or Notre Dame is the most overrated team in the country.

Orange looking like a possible NIT team...they have glimpses of being a Top 25 team but most likely will be a 9 seed at best.

Oh yeah. And then there's the part about UVa being undefeated.

Syracuse had a great honeymoon for the first ten or twelve games in ACC last year. Since then, the referees seem to determine to make Beihelm give up the zone defense. They hate a team with 100% zone. I think eventually the referees will win the battles.

Louisville did not look like a #5 team last night against Wake Forest. Wake even led late in the 2nd half. Cardinals did win by 9, but I'm very pleased with what I see from Danny Manning as coach. Sooooooooo much better than that godawful Bzdelik!

JB is way too old and set in his ways to change. I would wager however his replacement in waiting Mike Hopkins will play a lot more man.

Can GT play Syracuse for every basketball game? Or better yet -- every game in every sport?

A hall of famer with a loaded roster cannot pull away from the dead man walking with a team full of transfers.

lol ... a cripple fight between two hideous teams. The Georgia Tech football team put up more points in the Orange Bowl than either of these teams did tonight.

He may be a HoF coach but he has put together a team that is not very good. We are NIT bound.

The short bus honking the horn...time for your team to get on. We're waiting...you guys need to escort us to Hartsfield.

We'll be NIT at worst...GTech not sure yet.

Sucks is to nice a term to describe Louisville's offense right now. In Louisville, Clemson shoots 31% from the field, attempts only 2 free throws and still leads UofL at the half by 4. The same Clemson team that lost to Winthrop, Gardner-Webb, and Rutgers.

RE: Open Thread - 2014-15 Men's Basketball Season
I would say the ACC games the last two nights have set the sport of basketball back a decade but this ugly play is nationwide.

Duke 73 - Wake 65
-This was close the whole way with Wake up 57-55 before Duke pulls away late with a 12-2 run. Duke & UofL only won by single digits in Winston-Salem this week.

Louisville 58 - Clemson 52
-Cards won by opening the 2nd half on a 17-0 run. The Cards' basketball IQ may in fact be a negative number. In one of the most stupid displays of basketball I've ever seen by a team that's up by 7 to 9 points late, UofL fouled Clemson five times in the final minute. Forget making the team that's losing work for points, how about fouling a three point shooter and allowing the team that trails 8 free throws in the final minute! If they continue this play they'll get rolled at UNC on Saturday.

Syracuse 46 - Georgia Tech 45
-I'm not quite sure how the Orange held GT scoreless from the field for the final 9 minutes of the game and still almost lost.

Virginia 61 - NC State 51
-Nothing too notable here but UVA wins their 19th straight at home.

Too many weak A$$ games in November and December . You just don't get anything out of them and only hurts You later. Should have at least 6 games of importance in those months for every p5 conference school as well as The Big East and AAC, MWC, A10.

At some point, folks are going to have to acknowledge that Bennett is one heck of a coach.
