RE: CUSA title game attendance
I don't really feel like arguing with Rice guys, because I like you and respect your school. But would it be so hard to say, "Yes we have a small enrollment and fanbase that doesn't really care much about the football team and an 18K seat stadium would suit our needs better." That's at least a defendable argument.

No, and we don't mind the banter with reasoned posters. Marshall has a few fans less eloquent than you who can't land their points without hurling insults.

Marshall and Rice both have high expectations from past days of glory. Seems like we share a problem and can learn from each other for the fix.

RE: CUSA title game attendance
Guys, except for a handful of big schools, attendance is an issue all over, both in college and the Pro's. Yeah, as a league we should have better attendance for our championship game. As for Marshall, I think our fans are numb from last week, paired with the predicted heavy rain, it seems like our season is over and a failure. Sorry to say but that's the vibe I get.

I think the football team feels that way as well. Thats why I am not confident about tomorrow. That and the fact Peterson knows Cato and our offense, scheme, players - thats a HUGE edge.

I'll be there though - in my damn rain suit. Rain has killed our attendance this fall - sucks!

We had every Saturday game with an 11 am kick. That was brutal. I tried but never made it to the stadium before kick-off.

I was on an athletic bands scholarship while at Marshall, and went to C-USA tournaments for men's and women's basketball, as well as bowl games for football.

Our band got to fly to Houston last year on the conference's dime last year if I remember correctly. I know C-USA pays for some travel for bands/cheerleaders for things like bowls, championships, etc.

That is brutal. Hey, just wanted to say I admire Rice, their program and the school. Kudos to all.

CUSA pays for Bus or Flight depending on distance. Our Band gets to fly.

Looking forward to the game. Best of luck to both teams. Hubby will probably have it on while finishing decorating for a Christmas party. Yeah, I'm behind...better get back to it!

I will never forget laughing because they put everyone in 1 section for tv to zoom in on and you would see it when the cameras couldnt avoid the empty stadium. You try to say there were 18k people in the concourse? Hahahaahahhahaha

Were you there? Seems a pretty simple question that keeps going unanswered.

Pretty simple that i was where all the tv cameras were. Unless you have a picture of 18k people in the concourse, i dont believe you. Mainly becaue any game at Rice stadium is attended by about 1k people. You doubled your attendance for the title game, to get 2k. And i say 2k because it is a truth that the fans were huddled in one section. I wish i had it on dvr to get a picture and post it, but i erased that ass kicking promptly.

It is what it is, our attendance sucks too consideeing the team we have had, ??? and i get noon games and how much they suck. But acting like 2k people was 20k people is lame, saying they were hiding in the concourse is even more lame.

This was not.

Guessing 18-20k attendance Saturday. Doing a complete rain gear check tomorrow then making a run to buy anything that needs upgraded or replaced. It's going to be nasty and cold. Again.

Oh yeah? So our 7k season ticket holders back then wouldn't have gone to that game otherwise? Who are you guys kidding.

Yeah, my information is correct.

We had 12,000 or so season ticket holders then. Roughly the same number we have today.

I can tell you are young, or you would have known that. I'm not that old but those were my impressionable years, when I started to see the big picture of things, so I remember pretty well. Basically, we still did very well to sell approximately 14,000 tickets in addition to the season tickets those years. That number counts the opposing band but neither Toledo nor Western Michigan brought even a noteworthy number of fans...less than 200 except for 2000, when WMU did bring about 2k down with them. The 2002 game had an ice storm the day before. There was about 2-3 inches of standing ice in the stands. The facilities crew used shovels all morning of that game with Toledo cleaning the seats, but they just knocked the ice into the foot area. It was still below freezing so it just packed down. They actually left shovels at the tunnels for fans to chip away and move the ice as best they could.

Still had about 25,000 for Byron Leftwich's last home game.

As for Louisiana Tech, as Marshall learned last year, Conference USA pays for the band and full cheerleading squad's transportation and tickets. It's one of the best things C-USA does, in all honesty. Just a better atmosphere and helps ticket sales. Basically that's a 500-seat block for the visiting band since they need more space with instruments.

I'll put my guess at 21,300 Marshall tickets sold, with a 500 bump from the LT band and another 500 (pure guess) fans... So my final guess will be 22,300 tickets sold and an actual crowd of 19,500-20k.

We only had 23,000 for Black Friday against WKU, a smaller crowd than attended the Marshall-ECU game on Black Friday last year, in similar conditions (dry and low 30's both days). That was disappointing. I was there and most who read these boards who are Marshall fans were there... so complaining here isn't getting to the ones who didn't go. Point being...if that's the best we can do, it's time to re-evaluate some things.

We didn't have the same amount of season tix holders then. Even if thats true, why are you operating under the fallacy that the most diehard fans, season ticket holders, would have missed the title games if they had to pay 25 or 3p bucks for a ticket? Come on.

I still have the ass kicking on tape if you want to rewatch it. Let me know how many Sesame Street learn-to-count videos i need to include as well for your edification.

Who cares! It's pouring the rain. It will be pouring the rain tomorrow. Attendance will suck. It stinks but it is what it is. What are you trying to accomplish my beating your chest about us MAYBE having more fans this year than Rice did last year in a rain storm?

In 2000, Marshall had 14,000 season ticket holders. They all received tickets to the MAC Championship game that season. There were 24,000 at the MAC Championship game that season.

Here's the link to the 14,000 number in 2000.

Now let it go and embrace reality. Big game Saturday. Go enjoy it. You can only worry about yourself when it comes to attendance. You can't make people go.

Really, Marshall wants to ***** about the Rice crowds. There problem is the damn stadium is huge. When Tech played Rice in 2013 we had around 6-8 thousand fans at that game and it looked wimpy.

I vote we play the CUSA championship game in florida. Nice warm weather and we don't have to worry about F_U having a home crowd advantage because we will all be dead before either play in the championship.
