St. gym....

Akron is investing 30 million in their existing arena. For that kind of money, it should see some pretty significant improvement.

Akron + Ohio would be a quality pair.

You all really want to take a chance on a program like GSU that has little to no history of sustained success just on the hope that they might become the next UCF? If they don't you can't boot them and then you still have no market value and a bad product. Best option is going with a proven product. One that has proven commitment over time to success. And not just a few years here and there.

All that matters is what the TV contract recognizes as their "market." If they bring all of us TV dollars because Fox sees them as having the Atlanta market, they bring value to the conference. That said, I'd prefer Ohio or Akron.

Ohio, Miami, Toledo, Kent State, Western Michigan and Bowling Green likely stick together as they are the original six MAC programs. Those programs have been in the MAC since 1946. Those six schools have always called the shots in the MAC. Marshall was the 7th MAC member in the 1950's and 60's...Lots of drama between Marshall and those original six schools thru the years. The fights on the field and off the field with schools turning Marshall into the NCAA for rules violations.

A consistently missed point beyond the scheduling and future expansion is the hideous attendance for MBB

Go right ahead....."stick together" as you would say if that's what you prefer. Besides, we want schools that want to improve, expand and get better as a group to prop up our conference as the best non P5 conference in America. We are there in football now. A little bit of work on basketball and we could start getting 3-4 bids a year. I think we'll get two in this year. (ODU/UTEP) and possibly a 3rd with WKU.

Texas St. and Georgia St. would fit right in to middle and lower tier attendance totals...

ODU's attendance will certainly be in the 8,000 range before year end.

ODU is the only shot we have at an at large.

UTEP, La Tech, and WKU didn't do enough OOC to earn an at large bid.

You do know that we lost to Latech badly yesterday, right? I'd be very surprised to see us garner an ncaa invite.

I'm not sure I understand why this is important? Maybe I'm missing your point, are you saying that getting a team to join CUSA from the Sunbelt or MAC will be difficult because CUSA schools don't have high basketball attendance?

I agree, but add Belmont, Murray St., FGCU/Wich St., and So. Al. all sports. 18 in basketball, 18 SOLID teams with local clusters of schools. 1st post, woot.

If the fans don't care, I doubt the schools care any more than their supporters. It tells me that ODU and UTEP should distance themselves from the rest and find partners that care about MBB. Replacing those schools with other low attendance programs should be be easy.

If we can get a MAC team to join CUSA I'd say switch to North/South alignment

North
Marshall
MAC Team
WKU
MTSU
ODU
UNCC
FAU

South
FIU
N. Tx
UTSA
UTEP
Rice
La Tech
So. Miss

Alignment works for ULL too.

Charlotte generally has better attendance, however our poor play last few years has eroded the fan base. All it takes one good year and Charlotte with be back to 6-7k/game.

Marshall and Charlotte would be averaging >6,000 fans per game too if we were 12-1.

The fact that Marshall is almost at 5,000 despite being absolutely terrible for 2 or 3 years in a row is amazing.

Not trying to impede on your grandstanding, but aren't you Charlotte guys already 0-2 in CUSA play?

Support in football or basketball has never been a problem at Marshall for either sport. We had several stale years in football and still managed 27K a game those years.

yes, but that has nothing to do with my statement.

We haven't been good in 10 years and we're still near the top of the league in attendance. We averaged over 6,000 until we moved to CUSA.

The move to CUSA was the final straw for a lot of our basketball fans and our season ticket sales are less than half what they used to be.

We would easily average over 6,000 again if we had a good record like ODU does. If we would actually make it to the tournament, we'd probably be up to 7000ish again.

Many schools in this conference could be 12-1 like ODU and still be sub-4000.
